It seems the "folks" at NOTW etc (News corp people) were paying police for info, but tapping into (or in several high profile cases, just checking messages on) mobile phones themselves (via private investigators). For once, it actually seems the government was not involved Indeed, this time, it's the government that is actively pursuing the culprits. Doesn't mean Government (past and present) isn't up to its neck with cosy media ties, special advisers and assorted backhanders and that MPs won't be implicated, but I think the individual MPs on the enquiry deserve credit for continuing to expose this stuff. I think people claiming this is some sort of mass event are simply seeing patterns where none exist, but that doesn't make these developments any less important. Many of them are very good examples of the positive power of the internet. Information can get shared across borders in an instant now, so where previously we probably wouldn't have known about shady dealings in HK or London, now we do. True, that connectivity has given people equal power to pump out garbage and/or deliberate disinformation, but again I don't think there's any concerted NWO antics here, just corrupt people being corrupt. They are the second richest family in HK. So that is equivalent to seeing Bill Gates or Warren Buffett arrested in the USA. I do think this shows that the police and the justice system within Hong Kong have the "cajones" to pursuit justice against the rich and powerful. We have not yet seen that sort of courage in the US. The fact that Angelo Mozillo, former head of Countrywide ...is free, rather than in prison, makes me wonder if there is justice in the US. Mozillo ran a crooked business, that the fixing of which may or may not bankrupt BofA. It is possible, we do not know yet. Why is he not in jail for all the misdeeds that Countrywide did during his time? But that is not all. He was selling shares, while he was talking the stock up, and reporting fraudlent earnings. Here's a report to back up that claim: The SEC alleges that the three Countrywide executives deliberately misled investors about the risk of its mortgage loans souring as it aggressively built market share. It was, according to the complaint, “a tale of two companies”: In public, Mr Mozilo praised the quality of his firm’s loans, describing Countrywide as a “role model to others in terms of responsible lending”; in private, he is described as having become increasingly alarmed at the poor quality of the mortgages and their chances of blowing up, issuing “dire” assessments to colleagues /source: http://www.economist.com/node/13805607 So long as there are two types of justice, one for the 1%, and another for the 99%, there is not a viable and fair society. The report of the Mahon tribunal describes pervasive corruption in the Irish land-zoning system and a culture of impunity that extended to the very top. This week Bertie Ahern, a former prime minister who for two decades was among the most popular politicians in the country, was forced to resign from his party. The tribunal said it didn’t believe his claims about the provenance of payments he had received. Morally Bankrupt The tribunal’s findings didn’t come as a tremendous shock. It has been investigating since 1997 and has issued numerous interim findings. Still, the panel’s 3,270-page final report was depressing enough to convince many Irish that their state was, in the words of an Irish Times headline, “morally as well as economically bankrupt.” The tribunal makes many recommendations for reform, and these should be vigorously pursued. Ireland needs stiffer punishment for bribe-payers and bribe-takers, and full disclosure of political donations. New laws to this effect are under consideration, which is good, but a fresh zeal in enforcement matters even more. Most of the misconduct detailed in the report is already illegal and has been previously subject to police investigation, but the inquiries led nowhere. Tackling the problem may be more a matter of cultural reform than of law-making. Irish public figures need to rethink what’s acceptable, and Irish voters need to insist that they do. Today’s mood of cynicism and despair will be self- fulfilling if voters, thinking their politics beyond repair, simply switch off. Apparently, it has been planned for a long time, since the government started "drifting" from the constitution back in Nixon's time - They say that he was plotting to become a dictator (with Henry-the-K's help.) They did consider a military coup, but ruled that out because, they did not want a situation where the military claimed a seniority over civilians. If you are not concerned about what you are seeing developing in the USA, under the current Corp-tocracy, then I think you are not paying attention. The first thing you need to do so switch off your TV, if you have not done that already. When I was last in the US (almost a year ago), I was alarmed how little real news there was in American television. Apparently, it has been planned for a long time, since the government started "drifting" from the constitution back in Nixon's time - They say that he was plotting to become a dictator (with Henry-the-K's help.) They did consider a military coup, but ruled that out because, they did not want a situation where the military claimed a seniority over civilians. This plan to arrest leaders (with no mention of indictment by a grand jury), take over the media, conduct a "show-of-force" (!), and establish new institutions (without any mention of a constitutional convention or a constituent assembly), is a power grab. Sure, they will say it's for good reasons but that's what all coupists say. At this point a "global reset" seems more likely to reduce freedoms than to restore freedoms. There is plenty to be concerned about, especially with respect to corptocracy. But extra-constitutional change in government is unlikely to be a successful cure. Also, the fact that I don't support military coups (and that is what this is in essence) does not mean that I don't pay attention - indeed, it's a result of the opposite. Carlton Posted March 30, 2012 Report Share Posted March 30, 2012 I'll add, it's nice to fantasize about sweeping reforms, the swift jailing of corrupt people in the public and private sectors, and the elimination of undue corporate influence. But, for the most part, it's just a fantasy and nothing more. Any dramatic action to sweep away perceived corrupt officials, to jail people without due process, to reform institutions without a democratic process (with all its faults) will likely result in misery. But overthrows have happened in Egypt, and throughout the Middle East. And according to Drake, the planning has been underway since at least 1979. If these guys really have the support "from upstairs", as some claim they do, then if they need a "show of force", then they may be able to deliver something impressive. The simple fact that so many minor players are resigning across the world suggest that the traditional power structure ruling the US, Europe, and across the world, is now becoming "unstuck."
