dopamine
It's 'good' for us who hold PMs today, but I worry about the consequences for the world (or, more specifically, people and their livelihoods), if this whole thing gets much worse. People who use HPC will be aware of CGNAO - looks like his dire predictions may be coming true. My happiness at a four figure gold finish is tempered by this concern. I gave my 11 year old a life lesson today. I told him, "never trust a banker".

Very true, although I'm not a fan of the fiat currency systems as they stand. I make light on a thread such as this, which is some small source of optimism to me providing a welcome contrast to the rest. I'm more worried about peak oil than bullion or maintaining paper currencies. I gave my 11 year old a life lesson today. I told him, "never trust a banker". You might prefer for the time being not to tell him that the collective noun for them is a "wunch". But he might find it fun.

All while the wunch of bankers control our means of exchange.

Steve Netwriter
Morning, it's been a great day. This deserves a fanfare. Here's the New Zealand Army Band playing in Edinburgh (great performers and very humorous): (I only found this the other week, great fun.) Brilliant. Thank you for that I'm saving that one It's a pity I slept through the historic moment (typical), but after a bit $1000 will seem a distant memory

All you can do is protect yourself, and hope others will do the same.
Steve Netwriter
wren, re the BV prices in other currencies. I would think it would work like this. They use the live spot price of their market for the currencies in which you can trade within BV. For the others they would simply convert using the current live exchange rate. Only the tradeable prices need to be 'exactly right'. I assume GM does the same for their multi-currency system (they do have a lot).

enrieb
So I can link to other forums and general bullion sites but not to here. You can see that the post was for general info as some people are asking questions and really need to spend time getting more background and this site is one worth mentioning along with the others. This is a great thread and its much better now in its new home, with all the great links, charts, videos, rocket pics and upto the minuet news stories on the economy and how it can be reflected in the price of gold. The great thing about this thread and its posters is that absolutely anyone can post here and ask simple questions about gold, silver, charts, currencies, banking and economics. You don't have to have any specialist knowledge about the markets to post or ask questions and I think because of this many people who would not even have though about investing in gold can do so. Its also much better also now we don't have the thread taken up with gold trolls, putting up the same old discredited arguments while refusing to listen and understand the counter points made to them. As if somehow just because they not being able to understanding that gold has value means that gold has no value, whereas in reality it just meant that they did not understand why it has value. Not all skeptical views about gold were unwelcome, Magpie raised some interesting ideas about value and occasionally RB would offer warning about imminent gold price collapse, mentioning his particle accelerator method of gold production, though I am sure that if it ever became possible to create gold out of nothing then the worlds central banks would be calling for a new gold standard. dietcolaaddict
Nice to see gold rest for the weekend at $1002. Agreed! Planet Earth gets three nights of good quality REM sleep, and then next week the psychological unfamiliarity of a four figure gold price has been overcome. wheelybin
Hi All, I've been a lurker on the HPC gold thread and now GEI for too long. $1000 gold, says it's about time I popped my head above the parapet and said hello - and thanks to Goldfinger, Pluto et al. I got into PMs around July last year on advice from this thread and so far I'm very glad I did. The thread has always proved entertaining, interesting and very educational. Now the ice is broken, hopefully I'll post something a bit more often than never. -Wheely.

Schaublin
I am another refugee from HPC - a lurker there for over a year. I returned from living in Russia two years ago and felt in my bones that the standard of living here in the UK bore no relation to the productive work being done. My background is in engineering - with a mid-life change to language as engineering employment was impossible to find. Thanks to the gold thread and links from it, I have steadily improved my understanding of economics - thanks to all who contributed especially Goldfinger. I sold my property last April and invested partly in Gold - physical and Bullionvault. I am sorry that there seems to be some sort of censorship at HPC and will be spending less time there now that have I found this new niche for the gurus!
