I was a contractor in the UK and would never have used a house there, always lived on site (12 years of that hell), all over the place. UK immigration fought like hell over family moving to the UK, so I gave up with that and built here. I've known plenty of expats in Malaysia, never a bad word for the place. Quite easily. 6 months of going to court to get a family visitor visa . . . after that humiliation, you know your country hates you. GF, I don't quite see how Oz is an economic safe haven? Unless one is a high earner, it is undeservedly expensive. May I plug the southern end of the Grenadine island chain? I recently met plenty of Brits happily living on some of them & they were not all loaded either. Scratch the surface & renting is cheap. Plus the people are the warmest, politest, helpful & genuine I have ever met, anywhere. Well, yes, you don't want to buy a house there, but regarding Australia, I see energy independence (coal) and just a lot of natural resources for not all that many people. Before it is clear how the global warming/cooling thing is playing out, I also wouldn't want to buy anything on a flat island, but renting, why not? I think another important aspect is convenient. When all your friends and family are in the UK, how convenient is it to live somewhere half way around the globe? Brilliant, just brilliant! I love the UK deeply, and Sussex is a beautiful place, I daresay it's new status a National Park will be another inflationary tool for the estate agent. The tragedy for the UK is huge regional gap in wealth (the biggest in the developed world) and no means of quickly creating wealth with which to pay off our debt. When I used to use the site I deliberately never clicked on the ads - I would have if the site were run by an individual (like this one) - to help ourtwith running costs and incetivise the owner to keep it going but, once HPC was bought by a software company, I steadfastly refused to click. Even so, it's very rare I see an advert I want to click. I sometimes click just to, as I say, generate a bit of revenue for the owner but I always feel a bit uncomfortable because I know I'm not going to buy whatever is being advertised so the advertiser is paying for a lead he has no chance of converting. I would have thought 3k would be about right. If 300k is right - I'm clearly in the wrong business. If 300k is right and, given that HPC is owned by a software company, you'd think they'd develop and use their own forum software instead of this awful off the shelf stuff. Rational argument and debate eludes them. If you make a reasoned comment on there that does not tow the party line you get called all sorts of things. Surely posting does not generate revenue? Isn't it clicking ads that generates revenue? I never understand why people use a forum owned by a software company that advertises its own products all over the site.
