I almost posted this a while ago, but I didn't think anyone else would appreciate it. These boys (and girls) are excellent live, all 20 of them... :) I have an interesting story about me and my mates and George Clinton, I just wish I could repeat it here...

Good song which rates as no 60 on the Rolling Stone list of 100 Greatest Guitar Songs.

rightly so - it's a masterpiece; a guitar crying out in desperation

something for budget day ?

On a lib theme:

From:

here are a few extracts to whet your appetite:

“Let me tell you how it will be

There's one for you, nineteen for me

Cos I'm the taxman, yeah,

I'm the taxman

Should five per cent appear too small

Be thankful I don't take it all

Cos I'm the taxman, yeah,

I'm the taxman

If you drive a car, I'll tax the street

If you try to sit, I'll tax your seat

If you get too cold, I'll tax the heat

If you take a walk, I'll tax your feet

Taxman! Cos I'm the taxman, yeah,

I'm the taxman…”

You get the idea; it’s a case of Liverpool’s boy band sensation meets F.A. Hayek and Milton Friedman. Not only was the song a brilliant restatement of the libertarian position on the relationship between individuals and the state, it also acts as a great reminder that the 1960s were far more complex a decade culturally than is usually understood. The lyrics go on to attack both Harold Wilson, the Labour prime minister at the time, and Edward Heath, the Tory leader who later became an equally useless prime minister.

Apologies if its already been posted

THE OLDEST COMPLETE PIECE OF MUSIC IN HISTORY!

About 2000 years after it was written, this melody was rediscovered in 1883, in its complete & original form. It was found inscribed in marble on an ancient Greek burial stele, bearing the following epitaph: "I am a portrait in stone. I was put here by Seikilos, where I remain forever, the symbol of timeless remembrance"

I forgive you for not liking Led Zepplin as you posted these..!

'oh yeah?' . Nice hook ............. kinda felt myself chanting that to myself today and nodding along with my imgination of the tempo. Nice post.

Reminds me somewhat of The Clash which I used to get off to whilst setting fire to things and playing with gunpowder as a mixed up early teenager .......

Though I was young (8 years old) my older best mate played stuff like this to me regularly and I felt exposed to the anger. I remember my parents were so worried my Dad made me take up boxing hoping it would give me some outlet or discipline ................. FAIL ! rofl ! .............. but I guess it at least moulded my view on what the value of 'music' as an art can be and made me steer away from 'pop' culture.

One of my favourite bands (which have recently reformed) and major influences ...........

Though not my favourite tune by the Specials it still resonates with me today when I have my own children to steer.

I wouldn't say I disliked Led Zepplin, it's just that over the years my concentration has been on different genres. I've recently been listening to some 'prog rock' (that's a sheer guess at the name of the genre, correct me if I'm wrong) and found some absolutely lovely bits of music .......

Something for a Friday night. JB regrooved .............

There's also a mighty good remix of 'It's a man's world' regrooved by Parker I heard recently that blew me away but sadly no links except to a podcast which is going straight in the car for what seems to be a rather pleasant spell of fairweather.

I hope to enjoy it. Have a good weekend.

Ok ok ok, it's not youtube but hey. This is one of the best videos I've seen in a long time. Everyone should see this at least one time in their life. The majesty of Mandelbrot and classical music combined.

Best viewed on Safari if using an Apple and with scaling off on fullscreen as it seems more smooth.

Enjoy

Liking that. I guess on reflection tracks like that would have been overlooked as most eyes were on what was being heavily promoted coming out of the U.S at that time, producers such as Arthur Baker and Jellybean were producing some absolute floor fillers. The only DJ with National coverage in the UK I guess that would have played such stuff would have been the late John Peel (love him or hate him, his coverage was certainly diverse) and it's a shame the role he played hasn't really been filled as BBC programming seems now to avoid multi-genre eclectic DJs.
