  1. Quantum activists  The next "big" thing?

    And what's a "Reknown physicist"?

So Dr. Amit Goswami was a physicist at University of Oregon’s Institute of Theoretical Science for 30 years, and still didn't made Prof ? Interesting

Those that either don't understand, or worse, actively try to fool people with quantum theory terms, are peddling nonsense that...

Says it all really doesn't it.

    "Quantum Flapdoodle"

Brilliant turn of phrase from Gell-Mann, (was also known to have an amazing grasp of language and pronunciation).

Science is science, philosophy is not. Each has it's place, but don't risk your life jumping out a window when testing which is which ;)

Goswami uses the example of traffic lights - if consciousness affects reality, you still can't use your intent to change all your lights to green as this would interfere with the intention of people coming the other way. If there is more than one consciousness in the universe, then reality is a consensus, not something an individual can make up as they go along. A unified, God-like consciousness would have intent that transcends that of individual egos.

  2. The Paratopia podcast interviewed Terrence's brother, Dennis McKenna:

I like Paratopia, it has a good mix of humour and scepticism while exploring a lot of ideas. There's an interesting episode on the subject of ayahuasca (the Brandon D one) too.

I had such a crazy nightmare when I fell asleep listening to that one. They mention a common theme in ayahuasca trips is a sense that there is some kind of demonic parasite always with us wrapped around our soul that we're not normally aware of, it's so familiar that we don't distinguish it from ourselves. I was asleep as I heard this but lucid and I thought if you can see this demon in altered states perhaps you can see it when asleep so I sort of turned inside my head to look for it, and there it was. I completely freaked and tried to wake up and sleep paralysis kicked in which I interpreted as this demon locking me down as some kind of demonstration of power.

Eventually I shook myself awake but I was still convinced it was real and that feeling just gradually faded. I'm still confused as to why I thought it was so real after I awoke. The dreams associated with my sleep paralysis episodes get more elaborate every time.

  3. this is IT! te best buy time. I am all in, gold, oil, silver. Silver is more bullish than everything, it may surprise with a spike. Just watch for the close, we must close higher, if not, we are going to keep testing tomorrow. do not put stop in profits, accept the risk, otherwise your position will be wiped out by the market sharks, waters are turbulent.

Silver and gold moving very differently today.

  4. Meanwhile there wasn't an effective system for financing capital projects. Which is why usury and the issuing of shares became more prevalent after the middle ages. There's a degree to which these were the financial factors behind the industrial revolution, all that 'token money' which helped to build the railways, canals etc.

This article talks about the technological singularity that some are expecting as similar to the industrial revolution as a stage in human progress. It mentions that no one thing was responsible for the industrial revolution. Perhaps fiat currency was one of the many necessary things that came as part of the change, just as a further progress will demand an entirely new form of currency again soon.

Maybe fiat can only work in an era of small governments and a relatively slow pace of commerce. In a time of globalisation, increasing powerful money issuers, increasing velocity something new may be necessary, technologically advanced enough to reflect the era that demands it.

How about bank notes made of nanobots? This way currency might not only represent work, but could also do the work - the ultimate guarantee of value. A chest of drawers would cost ten pounds, because a ten pound note would actually build you a chest of drawers.

  5. A Price Drop for Solar Panels

Solar electricity is about to get much cheaper, industry analysts predict, because a shortage of the silicon used in solar panels is almost over. That could lead to a sharp drop in prices over the next couple of years, making solar electricity comparable to power from the grid.

High demand generated by government subsidies worldwide and a shortage of processed silicon have kept prices for solar-generated power much higher than average electricity prices over the past few years.

    ...

"It takes about two or three years to add capacity," says Travis Bradford, an industry analyst for the Prometheus Institute. The shortage has been severe enough to drive up silicon prices to more than 10 times normal levels, to $450 a kilogram, adds Ted Sullivan, an analyst at Lux Research.

The added silicon production capacity is now starting to begin operations. While only 15,000 tons of silicon were available for use in solar cells in 2005, by 2010, this number could grow to 123,000 tons, Sullivan says. And that will allow existing and planned production of solar panels to ramp up, increasing supply. "What that means, practically, is that [solar] module prices are going to come down pretty dramatically in the next two or three years," Bradford says.
