  1. Appears the banking cartel is getting wobbly on raising interest rates.... traders smell blood in the water. Ought to be a bullish component for those holding gold.

Dollar Trades Near 1-Week Low on Reduced Bets for Higher Rates

    http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=206...&refer=home

(Bloomberg) -- The dollar traded near a one-week low against the euro as signs of U.S. economic weakness encouraged traders to pare bets that the Federal Reserve will raise interest rates this year.

``Traders will look for opportunities to sell the dollar,'' said Tsutomu Soma, a bond and currency dealer at Okasan Securities Co. in Tokyo. ``The Fed can't move interest rates. It's caught between inflation and an economic slowdown.''

  2. Ben Bernanke has succeeded in talking the dollar up towards the top of the range

Give it a few more days. and you may have a great dollar-shorting opportunity.

And if the dollar starts dropping again, Gold should go up too.

How would the conventional market respond to a strengthening dollar? Last week's DJI didn't respond well. Despite the constant groan from some on bubble vision about the imperative of a strong dollar, I think the market really doesn't want a strong dollar, and all that goes with it.

  3. If a decision was to be made to "pull a Volcker" you'd have to guess it would come shortly after the election of the "big 0'. It sure won't happen before the election and once the magic first 100 days are over it gets much harder to institute tough policy changes.

I'd add a few more points

Don't forget Volcker was appointed by Carter, not Reagan. Some of Obama's advisors are ex-Carter people, like Brezhinski and Volcker. We all know the noise Volcker has been making. The interesting thing about Brezhinski is he is not a neocon and has a very different attitude about Isreal and the ME in general.

I don't like Obama, I don't like ANY of the candidates.. but an Obama presidency would be interesting.

Let's not forget should a Volcker type be appointed and interest rates raised to 18%, the US economy would go into a severe liquidation phase, probably leading to massive political unrest. My guess is inflation will prevail with a President Obama. The Volcker route is too dangerous.

  4. A colleague always warns me that an Obama election will mean strong USD since 'they' will try to make his life difficult and get rid off him.

Any comments? I am not entirely convince of the argument. Seems too conspiracy-like.

  5. I've run a Vbulletin forum which consumed a full half TB of bandwidth per month on this shared hosting service:

    https://dreamhost.com/hosting.html

They are inexpensive, but customer service is a bit slow and they won't be GEI's forum administrator. They do manage the actual database and web server administration, That said, it is kind of a "do it yourself" operation. But you can't beat the price and they've been in business a long time.

I assume your backend is Mysql? My quess is, all you'd need to do is unzip your forum software, dump and upload your database, then enter the appropriate paths to the web server and database servers with regard to the respective configuration files, and it should run fine.

I jsut spent $30 for a stopgap, but GEI may die within a few days...

Growing isnt the issue. Staying alive at all is.

The guy who has been doing the hosting said he is losing money doing it, and he is booting me out within a few days.

I have found a temporary solution, that will cost $30 a month. Advertsising makes maybe $20 a month. I can afford

a small subsidy, but not $250-280 per month for GEI.

Another possibility is to charge $3-5 per month, but I think that will kill GEI stone dead

If I can find another better solution, that doesnt require me to learn all about hosting and internet, I will do so.
