  1. Speaking of shortages - spreads on sovs up by 25% at ATS Bullion because "no one is selling". Didn't stop me buying more though
  2. But...but.. Silverfinger just doesn't sound the same
  3. Depending on the stream type you might have some success with Miro. It's available for Windows, Mac and Linux http://www.getmiro.com/
  4. Today? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memorial_Day
  5. While they process transactions, at no point do they "own" any debt created by people using cards with a Visa stamp so it's quite different. My O.T. alarm is flashing red so I'll shut up about this now.
  6. While not wanting to p*ss on anyone's bonfire, according to the Bloomberg article about this story, Visa (along with MasterCard) don't actually issue credit. They only process credit and debit card transactions. So long as people use any form of plastic instead of cash, it will continue to do well What is interesting about the sale is that their previous owners comprised a number of the big banks. Looks (to me) like this is yet another sale of assets by the big banks to increase their capital base during these "challenging" times. Edit:Typo
  7. I've actually used the analogy of the mathematically inbuilt instability of the Matrix to explain the fundamental instability of interest-earning, fiat-based currencies to one or two others. Then again I am a total geek
  8. I get mine from ATS bullion ( http://www.atsbullion.com ), though I haven't bought any for a while so I don't know how their stocks are at the moment. The main reason I use them is that they have an office in London so I can go and see them if anything goes wrong, which it hasn't (up to now!).
  9. I've got sovereigns too, also because of the CGT exemption. In fact I ONLY have sovereigns. Just as well really because even accounting for the quite high buy/sell spread, I'm over the CGT threshold already and I only started buying in August last year!. Britannias (1oz) are also CGT exempt but more difficult to get hold of and so seem to command a higher premium.
  10. Well done! And welcome to the new home of The Gold Thread
  11. Lots and lots of familiar names here. Is good to see. Wondered where everyone had gone.
  12. Hi all, from another dispossessed HPC goldbug. Hoping to be able to continue my education on all things yellow and glittery
