  1. There is gold and there is fool's gold.

    Gold has run out.

Fool's gold is more abundant than ever. Buy some at http://www.exchangetradedgold.com

    MUHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAAHAHA

    The Eagle Has Been Grounded

As gold prices tumbled from their highest level ever, investors and collectors loaded up on one-ounce "American eagle" gold-bullion coins. The buying spree came to an abrupt halt this week after the U.S. Mint stopped selling the coins for the first time since production began 20 years ago.

"Due to the unprecedented demand...our inventories have been depleted," the Mint -- part of the U.S. Treasury Department -- told its dealers Friday. "We are therefore temporarily suspending all sales of these coins."

Speaking of shortages - spreads on sovs up by 25% at ATS Bullion because "no one is selling". Didn't stop me buying more though :)

  2. Sorry to clog up the thread but someone posted a link on here to a streaming media file a little while ago and said they had some (free) software which could download streamed files for viewback offline later. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I have searched and googled but can't find a good free option...thanks

Depending on the stream type you might have some success with Miro. It's available for Windows, Mac and Linux

  3. Like Northern Rock. They did not actually issue mortgages, but processed them and sold them on. Only, then, something happened...

While they process transactions, at no point do they "own" any debt created by people using cards with a Visa stamp so it's quite different.

My O.T. alarm is flashing red so I'll shut up about this now.

  4. hahaha i was thinking exactly the same thing! I wouldn't be touching a credit card company with a bargepole right now!

Today is a great day for Commodity bulls. They are dumping some GREAT miners (such as AEM) with reckless abandon, not to mention the Agriculture stocks, and NatGas stocks and of course physical PMs.. its gonna be fun relieving them of their holdings they are in such a hurry to dump.. all while the Fed is monetizing like CRAZY!!

..Ahh feels good to put in my first post on the new gold forum. OMG the 'other' forum has become SOOOO hostile to anyone who mentions gold or inflation at any time.. the deflationists over there are really bullying anyone with a view that challenges the new 'consensus' out of the forum altogether.. So much for learning or rational debate! <_<

While not wanting to p*ss on anyone's bonfire, according to the Bloomberg article about this story, Visa (along with MasterCard) don't actually issue credit. They only process credit and debit card transactions. So long as people use any form of plastic instead of cash, it will continue to do well

What is interesting about the sale is that their previous owners comprised a number of the big banks. Looks (to me) like this is yet another sale of assets by the big banks to increase their capital base during these "challenging" times.

    Edit:Typo

  5. Haha, the best analysis I have read this morning

I've actually used the analogy of the mathematically inbuilt instability of the Matrix to explain the fundamental instability of interest-earning, fiat-based currencies to one or two others.

Then again I am a total geek

  6. Where's the good places to buy coins from? (I'm in the UK).

Had a look at CoinInvestDirect, and they seem good... any others?

Someone previously mentioned GoldMoney for silver.... but I had a look on their site, and it looked like they just held it on your behalf... couldn't find any mention of them being a coin supplier to get physical delivery from them (although it was midnight when I was looking, so could have been a bit tired  )

And where do you get sovereigns from? CoinInvestDirect didn't have any listed...

I get mine from ATS bullion ( http://www.atsbullion.com ), though I haven't bought any for a while so I don't know how their stocks are at the moment. The main reason I use them is that they have an office in London so I can go and see them if anything goes wrong, which it hasn't (up to now!).

  7. Does anyone here buy coins smaller than 1oz in size, e.g. 1/10oz krugerrands?

Or is the 1oz size the best to go for?

Was just wondering, since if 1oz of gold skyrockets and fiat collapses, would it be of any benefit having smaller denominations of coin values, or would you expect to be given those as loose change when you spend your 1oz coin?

Might be quite nice to have a coin collection with "more" coins in it (i.e. more quantity, even if they're the same value).

I've got sovereigns too, also because of the CGT exemption. In fact I ONLY have sovereigns. Just as well really because even accounting for the quite high buy/sell spread, I'm over the CGT threshold already and I only started buying in August last year!. Britannias (1oz) are also CGT exempt but more difficult to get hold of and so seem to command a higher premium.

  8. HI GUYS!

    I FOUND YOU, I FOUND YOU. :lol::lol::)

I'm sooo happy i found you - I know I'm about 3 days behind everyone else, but I found you all at last! Things on housepricecrash.co.uk have decsended into a farce now - I only joined recently, but already I have discovered what a sad little bunch of bumrubbers the mods are. It's worth a look in to see how dead it is there now. - thank goodness some of the old schoool are hanging around long enough to get the word out to those who are desparate to leave.

    Great to be here!

Well done! And welcome to the new home of The Gold Thread :P
