  1. You sold physical bullion? All your bullion should be held in your personal possession. Do you really think electronic gold will be worth much when they close the banks and re-order the world.

Prompts me to ask if anybody has ever tried taking

gold coins through an airport lately?

I'm thinking the best bet is to mix it in with regular coins and put it through

    the hand luggage scanner.

Anybody fancy doing a trial run with a sov or two and reporting back?

  2. the timing was perfect. those in the know could see the UK state failure was a dead cert, and so pocketed the half the nations gold at rock bottom price.

he is the sort of w4anker that probably ended up with some of it.

Not to mention Bliar, who now works for JPM....

  3. I just had a thought (don't laugh :D ).

Some of the popular small bullion coins are historical, circulated coins like British sovereigns, French 20 francs etc.

These are plain bullion coins because they are pretty common.

The question is, and I'm hoping some real coin expert (id5 maybe) could answer this, just how common are these coins?

How many Victoria soverigns are there in the world and how many Bonaparte 20 Francs, for example?

Are most of them still in existence or have many been remolded for other purposes?

    10 million?

In Victorian times it was the practice of the Bank of England to remove worn sovereigns and half sovereigns from circulation and have them recoined. Consequently, although a billion sovereigns have been minted in total, that figure includes gold that has been coined and recoined a number of times. In addition, when coins were sent to places such as the United States for international payments between governments, coins were frequently melted down into gold bars because of the Federal regulations then in force. When gold coins were finally withdrawn from circulation in 1933 in the US, many thousands of British gold sovereigns were consigned to the melting pot in this way.

It is estimated that in circulation, a sovereign could have a lifespan of up to 15 years before it fell below the "least current weight", that is, the minimum amount of gold below which it ceased to be legal tender.[4] It was actually the half-sovereign that had the most circulation in Victorian England. Many sovereigns languished in bank vaults for most of their lives. It is estimated that only 1% of all gold sovereigns that have ever been minted are still in collectable condition.

    Enough for me ;)

  4. Since updating my Java version the Bullionvault chart does not work! Anyone else had this issue?

I had an issue with the iced-tea implementation supplied with Fedora 8.

    (Applet not initialised).

The fix is to uninstall iced-tea packages (but due to the large number of dependencies

it will remove a lot of other stuff). Install the sun JRE/JDK, reinstall things like Open Office etc.

  5. I think cgnao's point is that short term thie moves are a lottery, and so charting is just a lot of lines

Longer term, the price direction is very much up, since all the CBs and govs are throwing unlimited amounts of new money at the global economic problems

If that's the case, then fine - only the subtlety of the message was not

    conveyed by defacing Ker's chart.

To me (as a recovering scientist) TA looks like voodoo, but I like to hear

all sides of an argument and draw my own conclusions.

  6. I will sit tight then.

It's just with it being an online only company, I don't like the thought of waiting for my coins for too long.

I have spoken with Sara again & she is very helpful isn't she.

Nevertheless, it is mildly misleading to advertise

a product as available, only to give delayed delivery

once the customer has committed to an order...

  7. Would the delivery of maples instead of eagles upset anyone else?

    Gold or silver?

If gold, the maples are 9999, eagles 917, so you probably got a deal.

OTOH, you should get what you ordered, so I would query it.

would Sovs with dents in them upset anyone?

How bad are the dents, and how old are the sovs?

A couple of mine have dings, but only visible through a hand lens.

    Would anyone complain?

Just curious, as I don't want appear pedantic by complaining if it is trivial.

I would query it, after making sure the error was not in my favour ;)

  8. Sorry but to me it sounds like wild speculation at this point. IMO a version of this may eventually come to fruition, but I sincerely doubt this level of commitment has been given by the alleged supporting countries, it smells of a conspiracy theory to me. Nevertheless, it was interesting to note he didn't mention the UK per se just Sterling, was it just an over sight?

  9. Medvedev lashes out at gold producers

President Dmitry Medvedev has hit out at Russia's gold producers for not being efficient enough.

Speaking to representatives of the sector in Russia's far eastern city of Magadan, Medevev urged them to cut down on bureaucracy and to co-operate better with the government.

He called on all the sides to resolve the issues as quickly as possible.

“You are aware of how the financial markets are performing right now, and their effect on the rising gold prices. You should be able to cope with all this a lot faster,” Medvedev said.

  10. Cunning subterfugal plan by the PTB to dupe us contrarian-minded gold bugs out of our gold?

Too paranoid for me - I thought it more likely to have

been part of a media scare campaign to rally support

    for taxpayer funded bailouts.

The MSM has been in overdrive on that particular topic.

  11. Was down at ATS today, no queues, two other customers

    whilst I was there.

Very low on stocks, and they 'had been busy'.

Chatting to the guy, he mentioned the Guardian article.

Apparently, they only had a 'few words' and next thing they were on the

    front page of the Grauniad.

Not too pleased, as they prefer to be discreet for obvious reasons.

Apparently photographers had arrived this morning to photograph the

queues of people trying to buy gold, but there were none.

    Draw your own conclusions.
