  1. the way i see it is that because Brittania's are CGT free, I may be spending £45 extra now over a philharmonic (even though they look much nicer) but I will be possibly saving myself a tax bill of £2000 per coin a few years down the line!

I'm thinking of selling some krugs on ebay and buying Brits with the proceeds - anyone know what the selling costs / commission are for gold coins on ebay ?

  2. I would try to build a position in both gold & silver. I think silver looks cheaper at the moment, but silver is a lot more volatile than gold, so would try to make sure I had a balanced holding.

cheapest silver coin on CID = £14.23 inc VAT

    spot price £7.64

    thats a premium of 86%

I hope silver does go up as I bought a few hundred ounces when it was $18 :(

I dont think silver is ever 'cheap' in this ripoff country

  3. I can't find much written about gold Mexican Libertads, has anyone bought them from CoinInvestDirect? They're currently the lowest premium 1oz coin on offer there. I'm just wondering how they look and feel since the premiums are 9%ish and comparable phils, maples or nuggets are selling around 11-12% over spot. If they're nice I'll buy some.

I bought quite a few Libertads from CID recently, nice looking coin imo, much nicer than a krug!

remember an ounce is an ounce.....

  4. Good find. Yes, I also think that the central banks themselves will have to revert to pushing the price of gold beyond all boundaries we've ever dreamt of. They need to create inflation, so they will let gold run once Gold-man Sucks have covered all their shorts.

now that would be a great forum alias! is it copyrighted ?

  5. I too am interested in platinum coins, but I really really do not want to give Gordon Brown 15% of my hard earned savings.

I'm probably going for Goldmoney silver with my next purchase, there is only so much bullion you can keep in the house and not worry about when away or at work!

If you.ve got a garden, time for some midnight gardening ?

  6. I've just spoken with CID and she said that you have just exceeded her stock on that item, but they would look to fulfill the remainder of the order the next day. I asked her about Krugerrands and she said she has hundreds in stock, I've asked her to get some more in. :)

One thing to bare in mind is that if you order more than £5K in a single order or more than £10K per annum then you must provide additional proof of identity for money laundering purposes. This is however on a per user basis, so you could ask your wife to register to get around this. She is also happy for multiple orders per day to avoid breaking the £5K limit so long as it doesn't exceed the £10K limit.

    Hope this helps.

Mucho thanks Warpig, just got home to find the invoice in my inbox!

  7. Cheers, I am after some krugerrands. This has always been the case about their stock..... I'll speak to her tomorrow morning and see what she has in stock, I'll let you know.

Thanks, I have an invoice number so I presume the price is fixed at the time of order and they will honour my order subject to stock.

  8. out of interest what did you order? bullion/coins and type if you don't mind me asking?

ordered some of the 1000 schilling coins I was banging on about yesterday. Usually, if they're on the site, they are in stock and an email invoice is delivered within minutes.

  9. I have just used Cgnao's tip as an excuse to get out of BV, I don't trust any of the countries where you can store your bullion. It seems a little insane to be partly sitting out of the market at the moment, but I will be watching the spot price like a hawk. I will be buying back in to add to my physical ASAP - post smackdown, I have faith in the man.

lets all hope the cupboards not bare by then.....placed an order with CID today and instead of my usual instant invoice I got this......

    Dear Mr ****

Thank you for your order *****. We will review our stocks and contact you as soon as possible. Please note that this order is only confirmed once you have received the link to your invoice via email.

  10. On the main gold coin listing page:

    http://coininvestdirect.com/main.php?a=10&id=1

you see that it says gold content. So that's how many grammes of gold in the coin - 12.15. The coin-specific page should be more precise about that.

But about lower denomination (smaller) coins I feel somewhat the same. This might seem to be a good deal but check the buy-sell spread. I haven't done the calculation but per ounce the spread looks a good deal wider than for popular and cheaper one ounce coins. If this applies still at the time you sell, the seeming gain may not be one. Might be an idea to compare the buy-sell spread with other smaller coins.

Sorry, I got the calculation wrong. A right twite not being careful about the currency.

    Grateful for the response(s) :)

Only thing left to decide is buy now or wait for CG's predicted smackdown ............

  11. You just beat me. I realized that I was looking at the dollar price!

    (31.103477/12.15) x £224.78 = £575.42712

So yes, cheaper than the standard one ounce coins.

Of those the one ounce philharmoniker is the cheapest on the list at £585.94.

Phils might be easier to sell though. Notice that the buy-sell spread per ounce is a good deal higher for the Babenberger. But if it's just metal you want...

I was thinking along the lines of lower denomination than the 1oz' ers I've got already and yes it's the metal content that matters, I'm no collector!

Only thing I'm slightly not sure about on these is where it quotes 900/1000 which I presume is fineness, yet they say gold content is same as weight (12.15g) Does this sound right or is there some alloy in there making up the 12.15g ??

  12. I make it £885.21 per ounce.

    (31.103477/12.15) x £345.79 = £885.20751

    One troy ounce is 31.103477g.

Nice looking coin though. Does it commemorate some anniversary?

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just had a thought about remembering 31.103477.

I remember that it's 31 something. But the decimals go like .1234 except change 2 to 0. And then round the 4 up to 5.

    31.1035 as a close approximation.

Where are you getting £345.79 from? The price I'm seeing is £224.81 (it should be 1000 schilling coin)

  13. Anyone buying physical at the mo (and at these premiums)?

I'm 20% in (mainly gold and some silver) and want to increase my stake

my last purchase in July bought me nuggets and Eagles @ £460 each.......now selling for circa £560 :o

Sovs and bars work out a bit cheaper per oz (CID)

keep powder dry or buy now? who's doing the best deals? (I won't buy off ebay!)

edit : 1000g bar on CID works out at £504/oz, 2% over spot..............
