  1. Sorry to read that - hope you get well soon.

I must admit I am still expecting a pull back (the deflationary reverse with USD strengthening) but at the same time I'm not sure what this means for gold in GBPs. In Oct/Nov last year even when gold fell hard in USD it didn't fall anything like as much in GBP and then soon took off to new highs a few months later.

Do you expect to see sub £600 gold in the next few years?

Thanks for your concern folks. GP did a swab test. Not feeling any worse than I have with any other flu to be honest.

Anyhoo... sub £600 is certainly a possibility but if you are a UK based investor looking to protect your wealth I wouldn't wait for it before getting in to the market as I reckon the chances are very slim indeed. If it were to happen though it would be time to back up the truck with whatever dry powder you had left IMHO.

It will also be party time for Junior gold miners sometime between now and mid/end 2010 as costs go down and gold remains up.

  2. Gold will do much more than just double. Of course, we will always fear the next pullback.

Yep the fear of a "big pullback just around the corner" has gotten me exactly nowhere. Sub £600 was a gift from god for UK investors looking to protect their wealth. Lesson learned listen to what your own analysis of the situation tells you. Best of luck everyone.

Love the rocket pic GF. Ah brought a smile to my face even though i have the dreaded swine flu!

EDIT: news of this action in the gold market may even start to get the wider public's attention. Well thats assuming they are not all too busy stuck in their over-priced mc mansions masturbating over property porn show re-runs from 2007!

  3. Not really. Since this gold price (like the oil price) is simply reflecting a weakenning USD and GBP (gold has not risen dramatically in most other currencies), I would say this 'big news' merely shows that these two countries are being very effective in executing a controlled devaluation of their currencies.

The full implications of this are horrific for the people of these two nations, who just don't realise what is being done to them.

Hi bigtbigt, what should the people of those two nations do to protect themselves? From what you have said it would appear buying gold would at least maintain their purchasing power? Diversifying in to other currencies may increase their purchasing power? But what if the governments of those other nations also try to devalue? This is a significant risk as they all try to race to the bottom. From a longer term perspective gold looks the best bet here?

  4. Agreed and suits me, just seeing if it will fallback a little for me to ride the next wave, be it tipsheet ramp, All Alan gains huge following or whatever other good news however it is spread.

Yeah I saw on that ihub message board something about agora financial running some newsletter tipping them. Lots of speculation that this is what caused the big jump up.

My strategy would be have a gamblers punt, if it shows a nice profit cash stake in, then wait for i) or ii) as you suggest.

Yeah I have been thinking about doing the whole "if it doubles sell half" approach. Then getting a free ride to where ever this things takes us. Mind you I haven't had a chance to accumulate the 10,000 shares All Allan mandates as the bare minimum

Death or glory play, not one to mortgage the house on though.

If we head anywhere near All Allans numbers a small punt now will buy a small house outright in 5 years

As a former scientist having worked in the pharmaceutical industry I find their technology really interesting and can totally see the potential. Still a sizable chance NNVC goes to zero though. Death or glory indeed!

  5. Only read this last night when I noticed your comments it was soaring. Intersting to say the least. All or nothing gamble eh.

Watched today for a pullback, fairly modest so far. Will keep watching and read that IHUB board. You must have a nice profit now, did you cash any in for a free ticket out of interest?

I agree it is an all or nothing gamble. Either:

    i) it is proven the technology/anti-viral does not work in humans in which case the stock would go to about zero

ii) it is proven the technology does work and some major pharma picks it up and we shoot off to All Allans numbers.

I decided when I bought the stock that this was my lottery ticket and I would buy and hold until such time as either i) or ii) above happen. The anti-viral seems to be working in vivo so far which is extremely encouraging. They just need to sort out their website and spread their news more effectively.

  6. well done, here's 10 virtual fiat gei points!

    KACHING! :)

Don't go printing those things up willy nilly mind! We don't want hyperinflation here!

i don't know whether they admitted it or not  - but it's so blatant!

Apparently Kraftwerk gave permission. Wonder if they get any royalties?

The band received permission from the electronic music German band Kraftwerk to use the main riff from their song "Computer Love" (German: Computerliebe), from their 1981 studio LP Computer World (German: Computerwelt), for "Talk", replacing Kraftwerk's synthesizers with guitars.

WEST HAVEN, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--NanoViricides, Inc. (OTC BB: NNVC.OB) (the "Company"), reports that the Company is well financed and its game changing anti-viral drug development programs are progressing successfully. As such, Management knows of no reason for the recent decline in stock price and associated volatility.

I started to nibble on this stock today. I used to work as a "target discovery" biologist within the pharmaceutical industry so this company is particularly interesting to me. Their recent experimental results look quite promising but I have to be mindful it is a long long road to market for any new drug. Thinking this could be a tuck it away and come back in a few years type stock.

“We now have four commercially important drugs in our pipeline, and sufficient funds to pursue further development,” said Eugene Seymour, MD, MPH, CEO of the Company, adding, “these drugs address a $40 billion market space.” The four commercially important drugs target HIV, all Influenzas, viral diseases of the external Eye, and Herpes Simplex viral infections including cold sores and genital herpes (HSV).

The Company has described the results from its preliminary anti-HIV animal model studies in a standard SCID-hu Thy/Liv mouse model in its annual report (filed on October 13, 2009). The anti-HIV nanoviricide drug candidates were found to be superior to a three-drug cocktail called HAART (for “highly active anti-retroviral therapy”) in all parameters tested. Significantly, the best nanoviricide drug candidate showed HIV-1 viral load reduction that was superior to that of animals treated with the oral HAART three-drug cocktail. This nanoviricide drug candidate also led to a significant increase in the proportion of human T lymphocytes that were positive for both CD4 and CD8 markers (CD4+CD8+ Double Positives or “DP”). This increase in DP human T cells in the nanoviricide treated mice was equal to or better than the oral HAART three-drug cocktail. Loss of human T cells caused by HIV was thus completely reversed by nanoviricide treatment.

Even more significantly the nanoviricide anti-HIV treatment was >25X (or >2,500%) more effective than the oral HAART treatment, on a drug load basis. The nanoviricide achieved these effects at a dosage level of only 150mg/kg, while the total HAART drug dosage was 4,200 mg/kg.

It is very important to note that no adverse events were observed in the nanoviricide treated mice, while the HAART-treated mice exhibited clinical signs of side effects.

The Company believes that HIVCide™ could very well result in a “Functional Cure” for HIV/AIDS, if these preliminary results are confirmed in further animal studies and in human clinical trials. In other words, HIVCide treatment could enable a HIV/AIDS patient to lead a completely disease-free life until an episode of hidden virus awakening from latent reservoirs occurs. HIV hides in immune cells forming latent reservoirs. It is widely believed in the scientific community that if these latent reservoirs could be wiped out then a complete cure for HIV/AIDS is possible.

  8. Been following this one for some weeks now. Looks like it has found support at around $0.60. If this breaks, who knows how low it can go. However, potential upside is huge, so long as they keep the good news flowing!

Did you pick up any on the pullback?

Well support at $0.60 was well and truly broken today. We were down at $0.42 at one point and I too was worried how low this thing could go.

I was just about to pull the trigger at $0.45 today when I got interrupted and couldn't complete the trade. I came back 10 minutes later and we had jumped to $0.54. Damn! Ah well such is life.

I'll be keeping a close eye on the action next week. Hope to get in between $0.45-$0.50 but that window may have closed.

Hugely risky but as you say the potential upside is massive. This is my lottery ticket stock. Not much in as it could go to zero but if these guys hit the jackpot even a small sum invested will get big reward.

They really need to sort out their website. They don't even keep latest press articles archived. A lot has been happening recently and I am very surprised they don't take the opportunity to keep potential investors in the loop.

I noticed this guy really likes a company called http://www.nanoviricides.com/ nanoviricides

The table below summarizes the most salient and fundamental potential for NanoViricides and it's shareholders
    Picture%202.png

Let's briefly review what this company is all about.

NanoViricides, Inc. is a development stage company with a unique nanomedicine technology. Preliminary testing of their anti-viral applications have demonstrated very high efficacies in vivo and in vitro.

    (1) Their anti-HIV nanoviricide showed efficiacy superior to HAART cocktail in animal studies. "HAART" means highly active antiretroviral therapy. "HAART" is essentially just antiretroviral therapy. It's three drugs combined to make highly effective therapy;

    (2) Their EKC-Cide is a topical solution for viral eye diseases and is currently subject to an MTA (Materials Transfer Agreement) with a major (unnamed) pharmaceutical company. It is the first ever drug to have shown clear clinical response in animal studies against adenoviral epidemic kerato-conjunctivitis;

    (3) Their FLU-Cide for common influenzas has shown excellent efficacy in animal studies;

    (4) Their FLU-Cide-HP for Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenzas (HPAI, aka "Bird Flu") has shown excellent efficacy against H5N1 clade I (resistant to Tamiflu) and H5N1 clade 2.

The total dollar markets for these and other commercial disease targets represent large markets of approximately $40B total by 2013.

As of today's stock close of $0.70, the market capitalization of NanoViricides is about $86M. The markets their products are addressing over the next 4 years, some of which represent markets with no current non-toxic drugs and others in which there are no effective treatments whatsoever, amount to $40B. The HIV market alone is $21B. The smallest market for any single one of their drugs is $1B.

How much longer will the market cap of NNVC remain under $1B?

At $1B market cap, share price will be about $10.00, or 14X current share price. But that's just for starters. If their HIV anti-viral hits, a $21B market, how much is the company worth? Does $10B seem reasonable? It does to me. At a $10B market cap, share price is about $100.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

It has had a big pull back over the last month (down 35% to 60cents). It looks a high risk but potentially very interesting company for the brave hearted investor.

interesting reading to say the least

Thanks for that. Interesting read. Is this the "if your buying here you are buying from me" chap?

I also took a look round his website and found this gem of a video:

    https://www.gracelandupdates.com/video/j1/j1.html

Gold has broken to new all time highs but the dollar not even broken back through the low of 72 yet.

Even during the stock panic we only got back to 88. Far from the high of 121

Be careful if you are looking to play a dollar rally as it could get ugly soon

Be prepared for money that will flow into gold from institutions as dollar breaks to fresh lows

  11. Rolfe Winkler also recommends caution in listening to anything he has to say

As always: don’t make any buy/sell decisions based on anything you read in this space, nor construe anything written here as investment advice. You don’t want to anyway….I’m a shitty market-timer.

I often wonder what these folks who caution against gold would do with a lump sum in GBP. Just hold on to the cash?

I am not a trader. Just a small retail investor looking to protect what he already has.

From where I stand everything other than gold looks way too risky.

Right now, I suspect we could be seeing a lot of herding into gold as retail investors and other latecomers pile into the trade.

I just don't see this happening at all at the moment. The only thing I see is folks piling in to banking shares "for the long term" and selling their "gold4cash". As RH says we may never see a stampede from the retail investor.

As I keep saying when these companies on TV are trying to sell gold to you thats when we may have entered bubble territory.

  12. Well I've finally put my money where my mouth is...

    ...and sold to rent.

Completing tomorrow and moving my family into rented, despite ENORMOUS emotional pressure from everyone around me. It's a lonely place being right...

Managed to offload a "prime london riverside flat" (2 bed, 2 bath) for a shade under £600k.

    Feels glorious to be free...

I know precisely how you feel. We sold to rent in April 2008 and there just seems to be this constant under current of expectation that we should be buying soon especially now we have a wee baby daughter.

But it was not so much courageous on our part to move really. With the arrival of the baby we needed more space but simply could not afford the mortgage. Renting is MUCH cheaper and we can put the spare cash in to PMs. Until this situation changes we will continue to rent as it simply makes basic financial sense.

The price fluctuations in PMs can be stomach churning at times though!

    Good luck.

  13. You just can't please everyone all the time.

Yes but you can at least try to please some of the people all the time.

Who exactly was pleased to see this go to a trading only thread?

    Who specifically asked/wanted this?

All rhetorical now I suppose.... pity that... back to GF's gold thread...

  14. This was not "made a trading only" thread. This thread has always dealt with the wider aspects of gold investing and trading. If I remember correctly, GF spat the dummy because "investment" happened to be dropped from this month's title, and decided to boycott this thread and start another one being restricted to "investing". I think people should chill out and not take themselves so seriously.

OK so why then do I read posts on here chastising people when they mention longer term investment style horizons?

Duly noted. This is still a trading thread for gold though

If the thread still covers "the wider aspects of gold investing and trading" why not change a totally incorrect and misleading title?

If your comments are made to feel unwelcome you go elsewhere. Its not "spitting the dummy" as you so eloquently put it. Its moving on to where your discussion will get a proper airing and be valued.

  15. I don't think anybody was gloomy about gold.

Good wealth preservation move, but not a relatively good trade. Emerging markets are up more than 50%+ in the same time period (dollar adjusted).

Fair play. I don't have the time or skill for the stock trading at the moment so wealth preservation is the name of the game for me.

Duly noted. This is still a trading thread for gold though :)

I know this wasn't your making here halcyon so no hard feeling to you on this one. But I find it very odd and quite disrespectful to G0ldfinger (who started this thread so long ago) and all other gold interests on this board that this thread has been made trading only. No reply to those questioning why this move was made. All in all a poor show really. I guess I shouldn't post here anymore. I'll stick to G0ldfingers new thread. Bit of a shame that its come to that.

  16. EWI has been calling for lower gold all the way through this gold bull and been completely wrong.

Why should anyone pay any attention at all to EWI?

And all the while "goldbugs" get criticised for listening to "gold pushers" and their "crazy stories"

It cuts both ways dont you think ;)

  17. Honestly, I can’t see any signs of inflation anywhere. In fact, you don’t have to look hard to see deflation almost everywhere.

Thats weird because here in UK it is the exact opposite for me.

I can see price inflation for things I actually need every day everywhere.

OK so for now you could do just as well getting out of USD/GBP and in to some other currency rather than gold but why take the counter party risk? It seems clear there is a race to the bottom on with currencies all trying to devalue. But since they are all relative the only thing can really ALL devalue against is gold. It will be a bumpy ride but for those non-traders who are just looking to preserve their wealth gold is something to hold.

  18. Gold has not made sustained new real highs (only nominal in USD), dollar is making new lows. Watch for a breakout in the resistance line. However, if there's one, it's probably due to some news you're going to be aware of at any rate.

OK so someone who bought gold a few months back with USD has maintained their purchasing power in other countries currencies. That is truely fantastic news and not something to be gloomy about gold at all. In fact that is the very essence of why you should buy gold. It is a hedge against government more than it is a hedge against inflation. It may not make you rich but it will maintain your purchasing power globally.

  19. Some of these commemeratives are Sterling 92.5% and a few of them are 50% silver but there are a lot that are nickel silver and are exactly the same as the real silver version. The 1977 Queen's Silver Jubilee Commemorative Crown comes to mind as one of these that came as a Sterling proof but all the rest were nickel silver. Be very careful with what you ar buying.

Good point. I've only bought a handful of these things and all came with certificates of authenticity stating fineness. At 10GBP a pop I imagine wouldn't be worth folks while to forge?

But your right best to be sure what exactly it is your getting. That's why I was wondering if investors might favour recognisable and well known bullion coins that state their fineness on the coin itself?
