  1. Might struggle in Weston Park this weekend ;)

True, but lets just hope their risk assessment, health and safety legislation and licences are all in order ;)

Guess it's more apt than the album's title track, then again if seeing no shame in watching big bro fancy a "TWEAK on MY NIPPLE" cap sir.

Umm Hmmm ............. ahhh haa :)

For the last week I’ve had a fair amount of travelling and I really wanted to withhold commenting until I heard the whole album.

It didn't leave the CD player all week.

I'm also starting to thing that the track "feeling good" just might possibly have saved more people from a "depression" than both Bernanke and King will ever have with the Stimulus programmes.

I'm also certain that I saw a post linking to the interview of Tweek your nipple posted on this thread.... anyway, Interview on the album track by track -

Add my name as another Faithless fan to the list. it's a great album

  2. Found this interesting............

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/car-ma...toric-deal.html

"The deal has been called a "prommercial" by an advertising agency."

    From:

I actually saw the commercial (yes and I hang my head in shame I was watching big brother) then this come on.

Funny how this sort of music is acceptable when alongside a sales pitch (in this case a new Fiat Car), but gather a few people around and play it loud in a field and I'm confident that you will get plenty of attention from many trying to turn it down/off.

  3. Yep i know what you mean. The first album was a classic and they never really produced anything quite as good after that. I remain a big fan on the strength of it though

I posted it on here about 4/5 pages back and i agree.........great track & vid

ahhh.... yes, that was a nice post, not often you get a video like that. I probably end up picking it up at some point.

Picked up a faithless CD (double disc) for the best part of £4 today (yes I'm blaming the purchase on this thread - lol), and skipped right to track 8 on the 2nd disc, even turned the bass up a little bit as well. :)

  4. Here ya go SR........Some great strings on this one

    That's a cracker :)

Now this is a band that I’ve really missed, I guess the first time I heard them it was abit gimmicky with the "I think you are really fit" track that although it was quite "Fun" I judged it to be more designed for nightclubs, and not real pleasant ones either.

Not sure if it's on this thread but this was posted up on GEI a while back and I thought it was stunning.

After having the pleasure of travelling around the Ring of Kerry, and seeing what I can only describe as "THE" best scenery IN THE WORLD, I'd like to pay my respects to those very fine Irish People who not only extended the warmest of welcomes to myself any my family but made me feel privileged to have shared the craic with them :)

  6. The whole DJ thing came a bit after my time and so i never really understood what it was all about. We had a band when we were kids......never wanted to be a rock star but just loved the buzz from playing....and i agree, some great times we also had.

My background is guitar music but have got into a lot of the modern dance/chillout/mood stuff in recent years. Thing is, something created by a computer just doesnt feel like "proper" music to me!..(or maybe i am just an old git!..lol)

Trust me, I am now in the "old git" phase - lol

I understand where you are coming from, there was an incredible change in the late 80's early 90's with the birth of the sampler, this is really the key between what is viewed as "Traditional" and "Computer" based music in my opinion.

Music will always be a generational thing, I'm pretty sure anyone in the 30's and beyond just might look back over the last couple of years at the music scene and think WTF has happened, with all the artists now being downloaded instead of the trip to the vinyl store, and the big corporations churning out endless rubbish. (Please keep in mind I may well have a blinkered view on this) everyone will have a golden period (normally their youth) and songs/tracks will trigger memories of both good and bad times as I'm sure you are already aware. Mine was the very late 80's through the 90's ending round the early noughties.

My record collection covers a very wide spectrum, Rock, Grunge, Industrial, Metal, Rap, Funk, Soul, Dance, Electro, Hip Hip, Trip Hop, Dance, House, Techno to name a few. All of them have their highpoints over that period.

However, Breakbeat aka Nu scool breaks was my specialist subject.

Morpheus only covered 4 of the 5 senses though ;)

Just as a guitar, a set of drums, a piano or any other type of "instrument" it's the skill of the operator behind it, A turntable, a sampler and countless sound effects pads (Just like a guitar pedal ;) ) can effect the sound, it's all down to the operator aka the musician. But when both forms of "Traditional" and "Computer" music combine, they can indeed become VERY powerful. And this is a true art form imho.

    :)

  7. Have you done some DJing in your time SR?

A little bit, held one or two nights in a couple of late night pubs about 10yrs ago "chasing the dream" but to be fair once you have someone depending on you all that changes, and so does the life style.

but at least the income paid for the equipment and never ending requirement for vinyl, but I'm not retiring on it - lol

    Happy memories though :)

  8. Sunday morning, not in the mood for tranquil relaxing music, I've got loads of work to do outside...... and it's raining.

So, until the rain stops.......... A bit of classic Techno should get me in the mood to get my hands dirty ;)

Underground will live forever, baby. We're just like roaches. Never die, always livin'. And on that note, let's get back to the program

  9. Isn't that the 'french trio' - squash sweetcorn and beans?

It most certainly is, I've not seen the runner beans pop up yet but the butternut squash is starting to trail itself at the bottom of the corn. After having such a bad year last year with my sweet corn I'm considering ANYTHING that comes out of this patch as a bonus. I'm also surprised how much the corn has shot up over the last couple of days.

Herbs are going great guns too - mint parsley and chives in a huge pot. And last night we scoffed a load of rocket that I'd let flower and some american cress in a salad which tasted great (planted in a massive earthenware pot by the back door).

There was a cracking podcast on two beers with Steve a few weeks back, I listened to it again the other day and they're talking about Olla's (pronounced Oi-ya's) and I've finally got around to looking it up. Went into a couple of garden centres today, and not one of them had ever heard of them.

I just hope I don't end up getting a potters wheel, it'll do no good for my image (not that I've really got one anyway - lol)

I'm now hankering to get myself some land proper and grow more stuff. I don't do that much but the rewards far outstrip the effort.

...........and maybe slap a greenhouse on top of it as well, Thanet earth style?

    I'm thinking this :)

normally the courgettes do great but they have been obliterated this year by some black bugs

Are they yellow courgettes ? and are the bug's like this ?

  10. Update:

Potatoes - have tons of them. They are growing in my plantbed, they are growing crazy in the permaculture sacks and now they have rooted on a waste spot under one of the bushes. No idea how they got there, I didn't plant them.

Thanks for the update Mabon, it's nice to see someone getting similar results as me, must be due to the southerly location.

Potatoes, well.... my first early’s didn't give a "Heavy" yield, but I did get some, main is still in the ground at the moment. I tried growing them in tyres last year but i think the positioning of them wasn't that good to be fair.

Just out of interest, when you use these sacks, how many spuds are you getting back? in your experiance (Ignoring Taste and freshness) is it really worth it ?

Had a quick search on the net about it and found this.

    Brief Update:

Greenhouse - Cucumbers going well, Tomatoes are just starting to ripen (first one should be picked tomorrow) Peppers doing well, but nowhere near Mabon's 23 of one plant - lol

Patch - Onion's took a hammering from the chickens (I shouldn't have let them out) but I'll get a good few, Broccoli and sprout survived and plants are establishing. Courgettes are coming thick and fast, had a few beetroot although many are still VERY small, and I've just started picking my first runner beans.

Sweet corn is all over the place, the patch where there are currently doesn't get "Even" sunlight though the day, so some are more advanced than others, and there’s the odd butternut squash chucked in there as well amongst the corn.

Chickens are giving me a bit of grief at the moment (it’s a proper war zone in there at the moment) and the dog found a duck nesting in one of the bushes, which was a bit disappointing as the dog thought it was a good idea to bring it to us. Needless to say I don’t think the duck will be coming back in a hurry after that experience, but at least the eggs didn’t go to waste, and at least the duck managed to fly away quacking (always a good sign) after bribing the dog with a gravy bone.

“the townie re-location programme” as I’ve now dubbed it can really throw up unexpected surprises – lol

    All the best.

  12. I guess the thing is though... would you have courgettes every day if you had to buy them from the supermarket? My old man grows them and even freezing them by the tub load, he still has some left over come the next spring.

They have a far too high percentage of leeks in their diet through the winter as well.

In fact, I think I've still got some runner beans in the freezer from a couple of years back.(!)

This is all beside the point. I think you'll easily win should someone take up the challenge.

LOL - I think I've still got a couple of jars of Pickled cucumbers from last year kicking about in the larder

You are quite right, but I thought the point had to be made. I've just started harvesting my courgettes (a little late this year I'll admit due to the frosts) but I'll be sick of them in a month or so.

Coming back to the recent posts of the Strawberries, mine have now finished..... so it's time for taking care of the runners. A few years back I was given 3 strawberry plants, it was only last year I started cultivating the runners, this year I've got about 30 plants kicking around the place, not bad I thought from just 3 plants. If I can continue multiplying at a factor of ten every year..... i'll be a happy man ;)

So I Started researching vertical strawberry planters...... but came across this, and I have to admit, I liked the hydroponic rack system they're using.

  13. I don't think that growing veg on a small scale is ever really "worth it" financially. Even on my pittance of an income, if you allocate an hourly labour cost, those veggies would be very expensive. However, it can be a hobby, a useful skill and home grown really can't be beaten for taste.

I'll be very happy to issue a challenge, here it is.

I'll purchase 1x Grow bag 1x packet of courgettes and 1 x packet of Cucumbers from which I'll use just 1 single seedling from each one. (you'll probably get around 5 - 15 germinations at least from a packet) Total cost approximately £10 (and I'm probably over estimating that price.)

Total attention time...... hard to say really, couple of minutes to fill a pot with compost and dunk a seed in it, then the transplanting stage will also take a few minutes........ watering at least one a day will take no more than a minute I’d have thought.

When compared to whoever accepts the other side of this challenge, I am confident that I can produce far in excess of my original £10 "investment" when they purchase the equivalent of what I can grow from their local Sainsbury's. And let’s not forget to also take into consideration the petrol you'll save by not driving to Sainsbury's, the time it'll take and cost of the checkout assistant at the checkout etc...... as well as the cost of fuel to actually transport the produce to Sainsbury's and the production costs of the produce from the farmer/company who originally grew it.

and we've not even spoken about taste and freshness yet,

    Any takers ;)

Actually thinking about it it would be only fair to include the production costs of the seeds as well if we really wanted to split hairs :)

I gather from earlier posts that you are growing the sweetcorn outdoors - is this correct?

Get them in the ground outside and plant them in a block, to be fair, if you've only got the seeds it might be a bit too late to seed them now.

As they grow the "pollen" from the sprouting "flower" at the top of the stem falls onto the developing silks below. A good thing to do is to stroke the top of the plant so the pollen moves about and hits the silks.

You'll not have any problem with crop rotation either.

    http://www.rhs.org.uk/Gardening/Grow-Your-...to-Z/Sweet-corn

I also found this chart helpful if you want to know about seeding times of the year.

I was never really a fan of Ian Brown until I heard the Unkle stuff many years back, the two together have done some fantastic music, F.E.A.R. is probably his very best piece in my humble opinion.

theres also an Unkle mix of it....

  15. Don't worry about it, if they spark an emotional response post it.

    Thanks for the review BTW.

    Thanks Warpig,

In that case, to say it provoked an emotional response within myself I would most certainly agree, it was quite hot in there so that tear from an eye could well have been lost if one was wiping their brow.

For anyone not familiar with the song and just wants to get a feel for what I'm talking about, skip to 5mins, but to be fair...... I think this song is worthy of 10mins of anyone’s time.

ps.... and the elation from the crowd when the drums kicked back in, many people even stood applauding.

  16. I'm not going to post anymore UNKLE videos in this thread because to be fair, it's been pretty much saturated with them. But just a little bit on the evening’s entertainment.

They screwed up Lonely soul, It sounded like James was possibly having trouble with either a mic or maybe a vocoder as he was actually singing, but I'm sure the orchestra finished it far to early...... you know the part where the song breaks down to pure strings, if my memory recalls I'm sure they totally missed it out and went straight to the end. So after "having a brief chat" between I think it was the conductor and James Lavelle they performed it a second time.

On the second time around that part with the strings resonated right through me, it was beautiful. A true highlight of the evening.

They had some technical problems during the event, Feedback from mics on one of the first pieces did effect the performance, I'm sure at one stage there was a "broken connection" feedback sound that was heard, but to be fair I think James got away with it, maybe calling on a bit of DJ skill as the noise replicated within 4 bars at the same place within it to sit nicely in with the music.

The best bit really was the encore, due to a real strange mix of people (and i do mean a real melting pot here) you could tell that some just wanted to dance, others just wanted to sit. If you remember the Portishead live at NYC at the end of the set, it had very similar feel to it, it's hard to dance in a seated theatre. The encore was a heavier up-tempo version of Reign. And credit to the drummer, he did a fine job.

All in all, a fantastic evenings entertainment. a very hard event to pull off.......... and I think that they did. Although they could put just a little extra shine on it, I'm sure James Lavelle still has the telephone numbers of both Thom Yorke and Richard Ashcroft in his little black book.

............. and who knows maybe instead of a pub the next GEI meet could be held alongside an orchestra...... that might be interesting - lol

  17. Excitement got to fever pitch last night in the Mabon household as dessert for two (x2 bowls) was Strawberries grown by my own fair hand (with a bit of involvement from Nature).

My missis commented that they tasted 'just like the ones you used to get when you went strawberry picking as a kid' .

    dscf1346fp.jpg

There is not a sweeter taste, then that of the first picked Strawberry of the year.

    ;)

    has anyone tried this

    gardening-by-the-moon

yep, but only for the germinations not for planting out.

………and I got strong germinations this year. My jury is still out regarding this technique as I'll admit I seeded quite late this year due to the cold weather but next year I might run an "experiment"

  18. I'd love to keep chickens but the garden is a tad small and there are a lot of urban foxs about the place.

When I get a bigger piece of land, will defintely have chickens as I eat loads of eggs and would prefer to consume ones from my own chicks.

Have you thought about Bantams ?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bantam_(poultry)

You'll obviously need some heavy duty fencing, but I know some chicken keepers in urban environments and as far as I know they've been successful.
