Grading Gold Coins

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

A quick google search for grading gold coins comes up with this

http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q...yUK%7CcountryGB

I'm fairly new to gold coins and i was wondering if anybody could point me in the right direction to getting gold coins officially graded in the UK

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

If you want to buy gold bullion coins then reputable dealers like Chard or Baird will supply them. There are a large variety. Krugerrands and Gold Eagles are probably the most internationally recognised, sovereigns a little less so.

If you are in Britain then you may wish to focus on sovereigns and Britannias, since these are legal tender and not subject to capital gains tax. Or you can move your bullion offshore. The Pound's days are probably numbered though, for the same reason that the dollar's days are numbered, excessive unsecured debt and domestic energy supply depletion. I expect UK will join the Euro within 5 - 10 years, if they will have us, to avoid our currency dropping out of sight.

Numismatic coins are more valuable than their gold content, and more interesting, and require greater knowledge to judge.

you could always try posting the question in the uk.rec.collecting.coins newsgroup. I always thought professionaly grading was more of a US thing (PGCS, NGC), and have never seen a UK slabbed coin on ebay
