Oddjob
China has developed the technology to reuse spent uranium. This is not really a breakthrough as the technology already exists in France, Russia and a few other countries.. http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/jan/0...lear-technology
Oddjob
http://business.financialpost.com/2011/01/...uranium-demand/ “The news that China has developed MOX [reprocessing] technology could reduce future uranium demand and potentially weigh on prices. However, BMO does not anticipate significant changes to near-term projections as roll-out of the technology is likely to take a number of years,” Mr. Sterck (BMO Capital Markets analyst) wrote in a note. G0ldfinger
I read this could make Chinese uranium reserves last for 3,000 years, rather than 60. I didn't know that recycling in uranium was that efficient. For now, they don't have it on an industrial scale yet.

Oddjob
The more I read the more I don't think this is anything to worry about in the short to medium term. The technology is already used by France and Russia and seems to be quiet expensive to implement. Interesting commentary on the new advance: http://blogs.wsj.com/chinarealtime/2011/01...of-yellow-cake/
G0ldfinger
Yes, somehow it sounds too much like free energy, which we know does not exist.
Oddjob
Yes, somehow it sounds too much like free energy, which we know does not exist. I think the market agrees: At time of writing this spot uranium is up 2.8% to $65.30. - Source: http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/quote?ticker=MFURMDUR:IND
