  1. In real layman's terms .................... *clears throat* .....................

type an open bracket like '[' followed by 'youtube' then by ']'

then from the youtube address you copy the digits after the '=' say for example in the address

    you would copy the '0Au_8GMUxVs'

following directly after your first youtube in brackets

again after your copied type in '[/' followed by 'youtube' then closing with an ']'

So it appears like this .....................

It may sound like I've over complicated but you can it seems only explain it in this way because otherwise losts of gobbledegook comes up. Once you've managed it once or twice it really does get quite addictive and you end up ruining threads with loads of youtube posts.

    Oh.

  2. Listening to this album for the first time today just blew me away - 1982 and from India!

Liking that. I guess on reflection tracks like that would have been overlooked as most eyes were on what was being heavily promoted coming out of the U.S at that time, producers such as Arthur Baker and Jellybean were producing some absolute floor fillers. The only DJ with National coverage in the UK I guess that would have played such stuff would have been the late John Peel (love him or hate him, his coverage was certainly diverse) and it's a shame the role he played hasn't really been filled as BBC programming seems now to avoid multi-genre eclectic DJs.

  3. Something for a Friday night. JB regrooved .............

    From: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L2AK43SRrHU

There's also a mighty good remix of 'It's a man's world' regrooved by Parker I heard recently that blew me away but sadly no links except to a podcast which is going straight in the car for what seems to be a rather pleasant spell of fairweather.

I hope to enjoy it. Have a good weekend.

  4. I forgive you for not liking Led Zepplin as you posted these..!

I wouldn't say I disliked Led Zepplin, it's just that over the years my concentration has been on different genres. I've recently been listening to some 'prog rock' (that's a sheer guess at the name of the genre, correct me if I'm wrong) and found some absolutely lovely bits of music .......

Though I aint religious the album 'What's Going On?' (which has some very religious undertones) this was taken from what I rate as THE greatest album I own and paints an incredibly personal picture of early 70's America and it's social problems. Though it paint a bleak picture it somehow also has a great feeling of warmth. I've posted two consecutive tracks from the album as they are almost inseperable ..............

Always wanted to see Nina Simone play live but apparently her performances can range from sublimely brilliant to completely lacklustre.

'oh yeah?' . Nice hook ............. kinda felt myself chanting that to myself today and nodding along with my imgination of the tempo. Nice post.

Reminds me somewhat of The Clash which I used to get off to whilst setting fire to things and playing with gunpowder as a mixed up early teenager .......

Though I was young (8 years old) my older best mate played stuff like this to me regularly and I felt exposed to the anger. I remember my parents were so worried my Dad made me take up boxing hoping it would give me some outlet or discipline ................. FAIL ! rofl ! .............. but I guess it at least moulded my view on what the value of 'music' as an art can be and made me steer away from 'pop' culture.

One of my favourite bands (which have recently reformed) and major influences ...........

Though not my favourite tune by the Specials it still resonates with me today when I have my own children to steer.

  8. - another one of my favourites and hard to believe it's from 1977 is Supernature. Produced by French disco master Cerrone

That tune is nice. One of those that I recognise but wouldn't have previously been able to identify. Thanks for the heads up.

This number from Demis Roussos made me raise an eyebrow when I heard it (played slightly pitched up mind) recently ...........

  9. selected memories of the bluenote....

I'm suspecting that you're referring to the 'bluenote' nightclub in London. I have gratitude to a close friend of mine who introduced me to MoWax through DjShadow and I was lucky enough to be present at Mowax's last ever residency at the Bluenote in Hoxton Square and can honestly say it revitalised my love of 'clubbing', or at least music related clubbing.

Same here I'm afraid Warpig though in my defence I've never really followed guitar based music and my focus has mostly been on percussion tunes.

Did however enjoy this particular number that I recently heard on a set ................

This is not my preferred DUB which is attributed to 'The Aggrovator' (King Tubby) which I own on an LP called 'Dreadlocks in Jamaica' but is the nearest link I can find. Original below ............

This tune reminds me of a time when the wife and I were dating and she was my rock and when my life turned uside down. Sorry to be sentimental but thought some background of why it means something to me might justify the post.

BTW I remember seeing a video of a girl dancing in the street outside a white hot hatch to dubstep wearing a cowboy hat, you don't know where I'll find it do you? (I know it's a long shot!)

Sounds like it could have been Jordan on a Maxpower shoot.

Agreed with your other comment by the way. I tried to follow Dubstep from Tayo/Freq Nasty breakbeats but from then onwards got tired of hearing an album with one good tune hidden amongst fillers and decided to follow other paths as was left feeling decidedly short-changed by the likes of Skream, Burial et al. My post was more about the audience reaction and the amount of dubstep club nights I've seen flyers for ..... it's big. In some ways I find it strange as Dub 'Versions' were generally (to the best of my knowledge) released with a vocal first and the DUB was a DJ tool, this scene seems to be going in a reverse direction. Personally I prefer the old crackling versions of the 70's and 80's but then I love deeps roots reggae (which I'll not post here as I doubt it'll be appreciated)

  12. that must have been a riot! have they sampled blur (song2) there? probably not, that looks like the sort of gig when everyone is having a good time - i love those gigs!

Yes they are playing 'Song2' by Blur mixed with I believe 'The Push' by the Plump DJ's (don't quote me on that). Whether this is truly being executed live is up for debate but I would have been bouncing about to the forward right of shot with a inflatable monkey on my shoulders and a friend dressed in a Tigger suit getting rather a lot of female attention.

I honestly don't know if soul to soul invented that "Break" but he certainly invented a new type of sound.

Agree there. What Jazzie B did with the new technology was ground-breaking imho. Saw him play a live DJ set last year and can honestly say it was one of my favourites.

On a similar vein though not quite so .......................

(the use of Pink Floyd's Shine on you Crazy Diamond [4:28 onwards] is sublime)

  13. Personally I have real difficulty in trying to determine sometimes whether a break nowadays is sampled or freshly constructed as sample laws now limit how the sample is re-used in commercial recordings. There's the obvious breaks which to me stand out through familiarity but it is getting more and more difficult. To me this is a great shame as I personally love to investigate the use and source of samples and in doing so gain an appreciation of the complexity and craftmanship of the construction of a song which uses samples.

There are some artists/bands who still break boundaries and create modern breaks ...............

Seen all the above live and it is a wonder to see them replicate so closely their recordings.

Kind of looking for new directions of interest to investigate so appreciate all posts.

  14. BTW how was DJ Cheeba?

Unfortunately a Thursday Night in central London is a logistical nightmare for me and I missed the gig but am still keeping any eye out for a more suitable venue ............ might gamble that perhaps he'll play the festival circuit later in the year (Big Chill or Bestival preferrably) and I'll catch his new set then.

If you like the style of his sets feel free to investigate more ..................... he's just released an audio set on Soundcloud here.

  15. Got the original Cheryl Lynn version somewhere in a box in the loft.

Love the era of mid to late 80's and the influence that a technology leap had upon music. The version you posted is probably a classic example and has been beefed up with the looped sample from James Brown's Funky Drummer, probably one of the most used break samples prior to the Winston's 'Amen Brother' break. (Also various Public Enemy (Bomb Squad) Samples)
