  1. ah ha......I know...I know.....what to do...... should we all sell our gold because it's at the top of the bull market.....apparently & buy shares.......they all look very, very cheap don't they......especially those builders & bankers  oh & a few more.....
  2. "On May 3, 2007, the Royal Canadian Mint unveiled a Gold Maple Leaf coin with a face value of One Million Dollars,[1] though the gold content was worth over $2 million at the time. It measures 50 cm in diameter by 3 cm thick and weighs 100 kilograms" 100kg coin wiki link info near the bottom of the link. actually I thought it would have been bigger than that.
  3. a bit of light relief: anyone got a spare £1.6 million for check out the canadian coins 100kg gold coin :o a mistake I presume. you would need a pretty well made pair of pants to put that one in your pocket.
  4. ok, who is this then ? must be one of you lot giving RB & his posse some stick. gold or dolars
  5. ah, ok...gotcha. as for the other stuff, I still think something is fishy. just call me a sceptic. I mean wtf are people buying then if they are selling so much gold ? I don't believe cash is king (in the majority of countries) in this current environment.
  6. hey WM, funny you should say that, I got a call 2 days ago from my local jewellers telling me that some nice earings had come in that matched a necklace I bought for Mrs GOM about 6 months ago. but why such a huge drop in 2 days. So that means that everyone was buying ok until Monday then & decided to all stop buying together. when have the big companies released their earnings figures ? I know some big ones were due out today & tomorrow, but I can't remember which sector.....hence the big selloff yesterday/today....
  7. I do appreciate that these combined are the pog btw, so selling one & buying the other should keep the price constant (yes?), but I do wonder if something fishy is going on here. I would be still buying more if I had the cash spare.
  8. forgive me if I am wrong but..... is this huge drop in the pog due to people/companies dumping/swapping paper gold for physical gold ? (I appreciate that there are other factors here, like the oil price dropping & gold hasn't decoupled yet as some thought) hence the lack of availability of physical (I think there is a lack of physical right?) because this drop is so sudden & sharp, coupled with the fact that it's harder to get hold of physical, this doesn't make sense to me. although I have very little experience in the real markets, I have followed closely what is happening in the markets. Something doesn't smell right to me. any of you seasoned gold experts care to comment ? or am I talking out of my ar$e? edited to add - has anyone got the trade stats for paper gold over the last few days compared with normal (or what you would expect to see) stats?
  9. just remember why you bought gold in the first place. remember how many hours of research & reading posts you have done to get this far. It's the only true store of wealth in this current climate.
  10. well I am happy with my first purchase today, even though I am down already. you guys with a fortune in gold, sit tight as I really do believe that it will rocket up in price, just as cg says. Don't sit hitting that F5 key too much though.
  11. oh yeah, never thought of that. also, do you want to run the hoover around for 5 mins ?
  12. no I don't think so, she asked me where I got the recommend from earlier. She didn't seem to recognise the name, could have been my dodgy north east accent though. I have emailed her the link to this thread where we were discussing her earlier.
  13. yes, she did apologise. She said they had been let down by their delivery people. In this climate, you don't want to be hearing things like this imo, especially as a first time buyer with the company.
  14. I will sit tight then. It's just with it being an online only company, I don't like the thought of waiting for my coins for too long. I have spoken with Sara again & she is very helpful isn't she.
  15. guys, just got this reply from CID: "Thank you for your email and for confirming your payment. Kind regards,Your CoinInvestDirect Team Sara Espírito Santo" I have made a chaps transfer earlier & am very unhappy about this. What can I do in this situation ? Also, is that person's name a windup ?
  16. oh, that's bad timing..... I assume you also have a dad that thinks he knows better then...
  17. I don't think there is any fear of that happening in the near future. I decided to only buy 2k's worth today, but I do plan to try to buy about 2-3k every year. My stepdad has just retired & just got a 100k lump, he also has about 200k in other banks. The stoopid bugger has it all in cash & isa's even after I gave him all the advice last year of what was about to happen. My mam also has about 50k ish in cash accounts ffs. I need their cash with my investment strategies, learnt from here. I fear in the current climate my inheritance is being either inflated away &/or taken away by the banking system. edited - I have about another 2.5k in cash in the house, which I think is still needed even though I know it would be better placed in gold no doubt.
  18. oops...... I meant dollars. edited - just realised I have done that in about 5 posts. Ah well, I will leave them in there for posperity.
  19. dear xxxx "We would like to thank you for your order which has just been registered and will be processed immediately. Please transfer the amount of GBP 1914.06 to our below listed on the invoice before 27.10.2008. Please select an appropriate account based on the currency of your purchase." aha, due to the phrasing of the text I didn't open up the 1st link, but found the exact same info on there website.
  20. small order placed with CID & I have recieved my email invoice. can you just pay the total into the UK HSBC bank details listed on there website then ? or is it better to wait until the invoice comes ?
  21. thanks, BUT I would have said it was because I was skint tbh, although the £800ish buy points have stuck in my mind, I would have still bought at £900-£950 tbh (& still will). I was going to buy in at £800 last year BUT I needed the cash to do work on my house in France (work I had promised my renters I would do), so I didn't buy then. Having said that, remember I am only buying a small amount now (under 5k).
  22. thanks FWIW. I must be the only gold bug on here that doens't own any bl00dy gold.
  23. I don't mind.....I'm in it for the long term I have a local jewellers that I have bought some diamonds & other gems from before, i though about putting a call into him to see if he had anything in stock. I did have a small list of things to look out for (built from an email that GF sent me when I used to post on hpc), but I can't find it. has anyone got a quick bullet point list ? eg; thickness of coin, what edges look like etc ? iirc, if you spin them in the air they make a certain noise ?
  24. Hi azazel, have you used these yourself ? ta
