  1. I don't think it's guaranteed either, they could try anything to stop him. But there's enough chance of him winning for this to be a good punt, especially with the odds increasing. I'm hoping Wikileaks are saving the best until last as people have a short memory and if they have something really damaging, releasing it in early November would be the best play.
  2. The Betfair Exchange has no limit and this is worth keeping an eye on as you can sometimes get mental odds on there. At 1 point Biden was 300/1 on there and the best you could fine with other bookies was 100/1. The only issues are that you don't get the stake back and you can only back what other people have layed, so with some of the less popular events you can't stake much. It doesn't affect Trump too much though as there's currently £648 available to back at 6.6 and £4863 at 6.4, and more will be coming in anyway so you could put it on and wait for it to be matched. The Betfair Sportsbook has the payout limits but you get your stake back. The odds don't go as nuts though as it's basically a standard bookie.
  3. I'd put a small amount on Brexit and was going to add to it, but bottled it after the Jo Cox murder as I was convinced remain would win. I put a bit more on when the 1st results came in but by then the odds were down to 2/1, so I'd missed out. So I'm backing Trump every week as I'll regret it less if he loses than if I don't back him. I don't put big stakes on and usually bet on football which rarely comes in, so I'm just going for this. I am going to look at backing him for certain states too - which one do you think is the best value? Anything could happen with this and the odds will probably increase between now and the election like you say. Hillary's health could swing it if she has another 'episode' - they're mostly keeping her out of public view but obviously can't do this totally so there's always some chance it could happen again.
  4. Yes you'd get 12000 GBP back so 10000 GBP profit plus the original 2k back. It has gone down to 4/1 on Sky Bet now though. Betfair are offering 5/1 but I'm sure their payout limit on political bets is 10000 GBP. Definitely worth a go IMO and he was as low as 13/8 after Clinton's 9/11 collapse. I use oddschecker to compare odds as they can vary quite wildly on some events and if you're putting accumulators on or a big stake it can make a massive difference. http://www.oddschecker.com/politics/us-politics/us-presidential-election-2016/winner
  5. Trump is now 5/1 at Sky Bet and they let you add this pick to accumulator (most sites don't). Max payout for Political bets is £25k. I think Brexit was about 6/1 or 7/1 a few days before the referendum, it might have been higher.
  6. Isn't the NSA figure for the Nationwide only a rise of 0.2%? That's what it says in the comments section of HPC but I've not checked the figures. If it is 0.2% then that's not much and it's probably London and the south that accounted for the rise, us northeners probably saw further falls this month.
  7. I've never lived in London so am going on what I've heard and read but apparently Shoreditch is a funky, vibrant place to live that is surrounded by rough areas. Each to their own, but I'd sooner live in a quieter area surrounded by other quieter areas.
  8. Supposing there was 10x the amount of gold that is officially accounted for and this came onto the market and caused the price to crash, do you think it would also cause the price of silver to rocket? With people fleeing to it as the safe haven instead of gold?
  9. Yeah my understanding of a US suburb is that it's typically a small town that is located near a major city, which could mean 10, 20 miles from that cities boundary. In the UK a suburb is generally an actual district of a large city and usually tends to refer to a middle class/upper class area located a bit away from the inner city. The UK isn't big enough and our cities (bar London) aren't really big enough to have US style suburbs.
  10. It's not just relatively obscure places like Blaenau that have been falling recently. I did a quick check on the large northern cities of Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool, Newcastle, Sheffield and all are near their lowest price since prices peaked in 08/09, with Liverpool now having gone back below the low since peak, with prices at summer '04 levels. I also searched Bradford which bucked the trend of the large northern cities as prices have been almost static there since mid 09.
  11. What is the rule on buying gold and having to inform the government - I read that if you make a purchase of £5000+ or make purchases of £10000+ in a single year, the gold dealer has to notify the government. Is this rule for each individual dealer or doesn't it matter (i.e. if I bought £3500 from 3 different dealers in a year, then that would be me over the £10000 limit)? Also is the year a calendar year or is it a year after I made my first purchase? Thanks
  12. What price could I expect to get for a 1oz Britannia coin at the moment? Looking on the 'net £820 seems to be the going rate, does seem about right? I'm not selling, just wanting to know the difference between what you pay for coins and what you can sell them for.
  13. Any uncertainty over keeping your job won't be put to bed for long, at least not in most of the public sector anyway. The cuts are for the next 4 years at least and any joy over keeping your job is likely to be offset by knowing that next time (i.e. in about 6 months time) it could be you. After a year or 2 of this I think an air of gloom will have set in at most public sector workplaces.
  14. True and looking on the net the only problems people seem to have had have been with delivery times and the quality of the coins they had received (some were scratched). I am going to buy a few at first, sell one to reassure myself and then buy the rest if everything has gone ok. How many coins would you buy before looking for a discount from the seller (I will probably be buying the gold sovereigns currently priced at around £180) and what discount is normal (i.e. £5 off for each coin for every 25 you buy or whatever). I know it will be different for every dealer and I am going to enquire about a discount for my larger order anyway but want to check how hard I should be negotiating.
  15. I'm in Sheffield Fitkid but don't have a car so travel arrangements are difficult. Obviously I can use public transport but I am don't particularly want to walk around with x amount of gold coins in my pocket. Do you know any reputable sellers in the Sheffield area or very nearby (Rotherham, Barnsley, Doncaster or Chesterfield)?
  16. Thanks for all the info and from the other posters too. I think I will go with Coininvest as I am up north and so would be looking for a delivery anyway. Have you ever heard of anyone getting a fake from Coininvest or one of the other dealers recommended to me. Or is it mainly ebay and other face-to-face sellers that you have to be most wary of? I've seen the guides in spotting/identifying a fake but just wondered if it was still a sizeable risk buying from Coininvest etc. as I would prefer not to pay extra for the proof coins.
  17. Hi, I am wanting to buy a bit of gold as a hedge against inflation/hyperinflation. I have looked into it over the past few days and am thinking about buying gold sovereigns from ATS Bullion or Coinvest, would you recommend either or both of these dealers? Also, I haven't been able to find out why different Gold Sovereigns with the same gold content are priced differently on the same site (there are some at £180 and some at £190 on coinvest), is it worth paying the extra £10 (would I get back more than the approx. 2% extra I paid for the £190 coin when I came to sell it) or is it just the rarity value that increases the price? I am a novice and so would appreciate any advice anyone thinks is relevant to my situation. I live in the UK and as I say I am doing this to (hopefully) protect part of my savings as I am saving for a house but with the way things are going it looks like I may be waiting a year or more before prices come down to a reasonable level. Thanks in advance.
