  1. DrB I think that's more a matter of form than anything else, if people take offense. You, in some instances, have "rubbed salt in the wounds" of those applying B&H strictly (i'm thinking of the temporary renaming for the beating B&H thread...). Of course some people would feel hurt by that, don't you think it would make sense? Some in that forum have been B&Hing for so long they can afford quite a massive slump of the price of Au and Ag. Even if it fell down to 25%, I'm sure the long term'ers around here would still come out with a decent profit or at least break even. Or course, for them, the "safety level" is beyond high and do not (want to, or certainly need to) comprehend what you're on about, especially as you're using financial tools that are deemed to be the source of our current woes. So there's this disconnect between them and you. That causes friction... And there's "us others" (that would be me and others) who only have had the opportunity to realise the value of holding Au and Ag in those uncertain times. Thanks to you, we realise the risk of doing so as we will be very strongly affected by violent downwards moves, and I, for one, am currently thinking of implementing "mitigation" strategies to limit my exposure to wild swings. But ultimately, I think we all share the same vision; even though our views differ on the implementation, we should just let these threads resume their "normal activities" for our collective sake (and maybe think about each other's sensitivities??)
  2. Yes, thankfully she is already doing that without even me suggesting! She's always up for maximising the expenditure, mind you I'm lucky enough that we need to keep renting for now for at least 6 months for school catchment reasons (Or else we'd be buying a crappy place with a massive mortgage by now...). So I can still hang on to gold and silver and cross my fingers that the "big collapse" talked about in the other thread doesn't happen until then (I wouldn't mind if the 'big collapse' was accompanied by a 'even bigger collapse' in property, of course!)
  3. Ah yeah, but you see, that's all long term She wants hard evidence NOW. House prices must be going down at a 10% pcm rate (in nominal terms, of course, none of that gold price malarkey) for her to be convinced (We may see that happen in the next months, who knows how much more printy printy can be still done to keep the soufflé up)
  4. Indeed There is no foolproof method and we're all using intuition and guesstimation (be it from "looking at charts" or "watching the news").
  5. Although I completely agree on the fact that TA is completely made up (but not as much as Astrology!), I believe it works because... Most of traders believe it works. As a consequence, they end up shaping, to a certain extent, the reaction of markets to match TA's (sometimes artificial) rules. On the other hand it provides some observations that, although impossible to demonstrate due to the complexity of the system it analyses, give one a rough idea of the momentum and variation of risk in shorter term. Now, it's no substitute to proper mathematical finance application, but even that can fail.
  6. I suppose that's what dividends should be for...?
  7. I think to sum up you both agree to disagree. You have radically opposite mindsets. Unless you both enjoy arguing, I believe it's probably better if you acknowledged you are not going to be able to change each other's minds. ... And for that matter, I believe that we can see that these humans' thinking is not changing I've been meaning to get into them for a while! That's proper hardcore scifi pr0n, like I love.
  8. Which is what I did... But what if I was wrong and the prices went straight the other way (ie. rocket up)? Then I guess the buy&hedgers would still win... And keep their core position. (Or am I missing something there?)
  9. Manipulation or not, Gold is not an isolated case. Commodities, indices, shares are all taking a massive pounding as we speak.
  10. Just punctured through the 1750... Let's see if that holds!
  11. If that's any help, I reckon that if we reach sustainably reach it, 1750 would be a critical level. it sounds like it's a support level (see horizontal line). Also, it's nearing the "buy zone" of the Bollinger band. Also, it looks like we're closing to C on an Elliot wave... That said, I've also added in red the 144d MA for reference, and it's still a long way down...
  12. To be fair, I believe we already have found the Atlanteans : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minoan_eruption Plato probably romanticised oral tales about those events and the then defunct Minoan civilisation.
  13. Yes, that's very much the idea. There's a separate 2nd economy going on there. Essentially, they get the best of both worlds : the benefits from the French system, and the money from the 2nd economy. Of course, they take the benefits for granted... It's a very one-way thing. If there are a number of them, it's definitely not around me As a matter of fact, if anything, my impression is that they are more down to earth than the head in a skies. Catholic religion is a big part of the culture, that's for sure. The most likely theory about their origin is that they're among those early european settlers that got there before the indo european wave which managed to preserve their language thanks to their exceptional cultural protectionism. One thing is for sure, nowadays, cultural independentism is still strong (a lot speak Basque as their first language). Oh, and stubborn they are. And so am I, I suppose that's got to be genetic Another idea I've read somewhere, is that they are the last Atlanteans. Now, that's definitely too fringe-y for me, but I thought you might be interested in that

  15. Being from Basque origins and having most of my family over there, I'm wondering if whoever wrote this article has been in contact with any Basque "unusually honest" certainly isn't the first characteristic that springs to my mind to define them, especially when the biggest national sport (at least in the 3 French regions) is tax evasion. Certainly they are frank and direct... I can't help but chuckle when I compare the chapter about Basque women to the memories of my grandmother (That said, I know a lot of nice Basque women, but so do I in the rest of France. And UK, and Sweden...)
  16. So much for meeting the 144MA line... Sigh... I suppose I've missed my buying opportunity 2 weeks ago and the summer seasonal dip has already occurred
  17. Thanks Alex. It looks clear enough that it's staying low, and, if anything else, going slowly down. Let's see if that coincides with the price of housing going down!
  18. Is the current trend on those share still downwards? (sorry to be asking, I'm very new to those kind of things, I don't even know where to find this data, let alone read it!)
