drbubb
Crafting the Future of Agriculture and Forestry Clemson's Experiment Station is part of a nationwide system of scientists working to improve the quality of lf life for people in their home state, the nation and the world. Clemson scientists have been involved in this effort since 1889 when the university was founded and the South Carolina Agricultural Experiment Station was located here. Today, the Experiment Station provides science-based information on major issues facing decision makers in our state, region, nation, and the world. Research is conducted in laboratories, farms, and forests on the Clemson campus and at five research and education centers strategically located in the state's distinct soil and climate regions. Areas of study include coastal forests and ecosystems, food safety and packaging science, environmental conservation, and ornamental horticulture, as well as commercial production of timber, crop plants, and livestock. Clemson researchers have produced more than 100 new varieties of food and fiber crops, as well as 47 patents. More than 100 scientists, in addition to support staff, are working on some 109 projects funded through state, federal, and other sources. The Experiment Station's research focus areas: •Animal Production Systems •Horticultural Crops •Agronomic Crops •Agricultural Biotechnology •Food Safety, Quality and Nutrition •Community and Economic Development •Water Quality and Quantity •Forestry and Natural Resources /see: http://www.clemson.edu/public/experiment_station/ == == == Clemson Institute for Economic & Community Development Conducts research and education programs to help South Carolina communities balance economic and community development with environmental conservation. Institute programs focus on securing a livable, prosperous and sustainable future for South Carolina’s citizens. http://www.clemson.edu/ciecd/
drbubb
Biosystems Engineering Department The Department of Biosystems Engineering is an academic unit of professionals who discover, adapt and disseminate knowledge and technologies. The focus is to enhance and sustain human and natural resources by integrating the basic biological and physical science and engineering principles with food, fiber and environmental systems. Our department is made up of three program areas: Biosystems Engineering, Agricultural Mechanization and Business, and Agricultural Education. The Biosystems Engineering program offers two emphasis areas: Bioprocess Engineering and Ecological Engineering. The Agricultural Education program offers three areas of emphasis: Communications, Leadership, and Teaching Education. Please refer to the categories at left or bottom to get more information about all three degree programs. Our Department in conjunction with Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences now offers an Environmental Engineering Undergraduate Degree. It is the only program degree of its type in South Carolina. /see: http://www.clemson.edu/cafls/departments/biosystemseng/ == == Biosystems Engineering Biosystems engineering is a science-based engineering discipline that integrates engineering science and design with applied biological, biochemical and environmental sciences. Biosystems engineers use engineering analysis and design to solve problems involving microorganisms, animals, humans and ecosystems. The biosystems engineering degree program is unique among engineering disciplines because it incorporates bioprocess, structural and mechanical design. Graduate students in Biosystems Engineering find exciting research opportunities in the areas of water quality, bioprocessing, non-pointsource pollution, instrumentation and control, bioseparations, aquaculture, and machine design for biosystems engineering. Please visit the faculty and research pages for more information on the research areas.
