  1. ...

Might put in an offer in a year or so if its still available.

Put your offer in now and say, "Keep my number, the offer remains on the table"

BTW, have you got Property Bee? £50K has already been knocked off it already. It looks pretty good value compared to the houses round may way.

EDIT: I just saw your name on the Bee :)

  2. Meanwhile the family business, a talent scouting agency and production company, went from strength to strength. At one point, I was a millionaire. But a few years ago, I encountered some financial difficulties, so renegotiated my mortgage repayments.

I have no sympathy for him.

He’d had the property for 30 and not managed to pay off his mortgage despite being a millionaire.

What does ‘renegotiated my mortgage repayments’ mean?

Does it mean ‘MEW’d over a million pounds to prop up a failed business’?

The guy was more than 60 years old at this point. Did he not think about the risks?

Anyway, how much money could a talent scouting business possibly need? I’m guessing he didn’t spend the money investing in essential equipment.

He probably went touring schools telling girls they can be models. Pervert

    ( :P;) )

  3. Dumb question, but if your source is good and there is about to be intervention, why not sell, wait, and buy back for less?

    It’s not a dumb question

    My thoughts:

    * Mass selling will cause the price to fall and the intervention may be put on ice allowing the price PoG to rise again

    * ‘Being organised’ could mean ‘in six months time’

    * The source may be wrong

  4. Is there a way of trading silver that avoids the VAT and the dealer fees. They are quite expensive. It put me off in December, I'd only be breaking even about now. Is it a case of buying mining stocks?

I agree with Double Agent - Post #447

    And

50% silver coins (Pre 1947 UK) go for less than spot price on ebay. The 29kg DA has posted above will probably go quite cheap - Post #443

You can use this free tool to snipe auctions in the last seconds. It’s saved me a packet https://www.myibay.com/download/

80% of my in-hand holding is pre 1947 coins from ebay

  5.

    Thanks :)

Guys - I think I've found something that is very bullish for anyone in the UK at least and would appreciate your thoughts. I use Stockcharts quite a bit now and have just started using something called 'Ichimoku Clouds' as an overlay as it seems to give better indications of a forthcoming bull/bear trend.

    ...

It looks like a lagging indicator to me.

This is a one way trip to the poor house.

Say you went short in Jun 2008 (the middle of the chart) based on the bearish cloud:

Gold went up a lot and came down a bit - You’ve lost money

In Aug 2008, the cloud turns green, close the short open a long and… You’ve lost money again.

In Sept 2008, the cloud turns red, close the long open a short and guess what! You’ve lost money again!

  6. Maybe, but not before next year is my guess (he wants to speculate short term, apparently).

I'm hoping for a ratio of 25 before the end of the year. I don't think ratios below 15 will hold for any length of time*. I will be averaging my GM silver in to GM Gold from 50 downwards.

    * This decade. Silver could be more expensive than gold when the economy recovers if some on the stuff posted in this thread comes true.

  7. Just how high do you guys expect silver to go.. realistically & why ?

Ive read many articles and bought gold & little silver... but just need a little reasurrance before I part with a fraction of money im going to need next year :(

I expect the gold silver ratio to reach 5 (historically, we’ve got to 15 before). It’s currently 70+ (ish).

I expect gold to keep rising in price for a few more years.

  8. Sorry if I'm being stupid here, but what does buy the dow mean then? If I add up the price of each share in the dow it doesn't add up to $12K.

They add up they price of all the shares and divide it by a fudge factor number.

The Fudge factor is currently less than one. You can work out exactly what it is by dividing the sum of all the share prices by the price of the Dow.

They change the fudge number every time a dividend is paid (and when shares merge or split). This adjusts the Dow.

I don’t know why they feel the need to adjust it.

EDIT: A share price falls when dividends are declared. Maybe the Dow is designed not to fall at this stage through use of the fudge factor.

  9. Hi azazel. Thanks for the advice about coininvest and words of caution about ebay. Do you know if coininvestdirect accept debit cards over the phone so payment can be made immediately and coins sent out? I looked at ATS and they seem expensive. They wanted £510 for 20g bars. I'll go and have a look on the coininvest web site.

Buying through the website and paying by BACS transfer takes about 3-5 days. Delivery was around £12 last time I ordered.

  10. ...

General Motors alone will lop 1,000 off the dow.

    ...

GM going bust will have very little direct affect on the Dow.

    The Dow is price weighted.

At $2.50, GM is the cheapest stock in the Dow 30, so it will make the least difference to the Dow if it does bust.

The FTSE + S&P500 are weighted by market capitalisation
