  1. I've got to say SR I have a bit of an aversion to 'guitar' music but that sepultura track kicked me square in the plums, exactly how I like to be introduced to a tune. Good stuff!

Doing some digging this evening and thought I'd post some old fun stuff .......................... courtesy of Prince Buster (Prince of the rocksteady bluebeat)

How can you forget "Al Capone's guns don't hargue?".........(and no, thats not a typo!)

I was very much raised on guitar music and used to play in a band when we were kids.......theres no bigger buzz than winding up the Marshall to 11, and smashing out a few chords!

I am fairly picky on what i listen to these days. I love the rap metal stuff but there is a lot of the modern metal that is a bit naff.

From SR's selection, the ones that grabbed me were the Helmet/House of Pain. Great drumming on that track and theres nothing better than hearing a talented drummer slogging it out behind a kit. The other one was Body Count/IceT

Honourable mentions go to Rage against the Machine, System of a Down, Manson, Foos, QOTSA and anything with "teeth!"

  2. I loved this as a small boy, but now on reflection it feels even more powerful, an historical record, literally.

Dont know if you remember, but the sampled commentary in "19" was based on a documentary about the Vietnam war that was screened some months before 19 was released. The documentary was chilling and very powerful and portrayed the full horrors of war. It was a tribute to the documentary and way ahead of its time

  3. They used to go on the BSA snowboarding holidays and my mates ended up on the same holiday with them one year, you might be disappointed to know how tame they were... even Keith!

lol.....I can believe that. I remember in the very early days before they really took off, they were considered to be a bit nerdy.

They have done some great tunes over the years but they also have a large back catalogue of crap too

I like this one...Voodoo people (pendulum remix)

  4. .......... but it's the comments at the bottom that made me smile

i'm 15, and my dad who's 40 still plays this full blast in his car, and so will i, prodigy for driving, for raving, for school, for life.

    Isn't that the truth :)

    Prodigy nut here

I have seen that so many times with the kids of today. A lot of them are listening to our generations music. As their only choice of music is whatever Simon Cowell churns out, then who can blame them?

    My selection............

  5. Loved this, brought back many memories this did.

Triggered this one in my head after watching it. Just a shame it got butchered by an advert.

Thats wierd you posting that tune!

I was driving home last night and that tune came on the radio. Whacked the volume up full (like you do!)......hairs stand up on the back of the neck and i thought " I am going to post that to the music thread"

So thanks for that one........great tune!

A big trigger for me also. She reminds me very much of the first GF

Maybe i got a thing for crazy women!... :D

  6. That's a cracker :)

Now this is a band that I’ve really missed, I guess the first time I heard them it was abit gimmicky with the "I think you are really fit" track that although it was quite "Fun" I judged it to be more designed for nightclubs, and not real pleasant ones either.

Yep i know what you mean. The first album was a classic and they never really produced anything quite as good after that. I remain a big fan on the strength of it though

Not sure if it's on this thread but this was posted up on GEI a while back and I thought it was stunning.

I posted it on here about 4/5 pages back and i agree.........great track & vid

  7. A little bit, held one or two nights in a couple of late night pubs about 10yrs ago "chasing the dream" but to be fair once you have someone depending on you all that changes, and so does the life style.

but at least the income paid for the equipment and never ending requirement for vinyl, but I'm not retiring on it - lol

    Happy memories though :)

The whole DJ thing came a bit after my time and so i never really understood what it was all about. We had a band when we were kids......never wanted to be a rock star but just loved the buzz from playing....and i agree, some great times we also had.

My background is guitar music but have got into a lot of the modern dance/chillout/mood stuff in recent years. Thing is, something created by a computer just doesnt feel like "proper" music to me!..(or maybe i am just an old git!..lol)

  8. I was never really a fan of Ian Brown until I heard the Unkle stuff many years back, the two together have done some fantastic music, F.E.A.R. is probably his very best piece in my humble opinion.

theres also an Unkle mix of it....

Same here. He was never on my radar for along time. I have actually seen him about 3 times at Reading/Leeds and the thing about him is that he could stand on stage and do the most ridiculous dance routine and still look cool! :D

  9. Don't worry about it, if they spark an emotional response post it.

    I would agree with that

The thread is about sharing musical tastes but its also about self undulgence!

FWIW, i had never heard of Unkle before reading this thread, but one of the best tracks on here is the Ian Brown/Unkle - Reign that you posted

    So SR.......post away! :-)

  10. Thanks for that. Leads me to a question Ive been pondering - has anyone found an automated way of downloading FSN weekly podcasts?

+ Same question for King World News ?

I have Itunes that works well for others like 2beers with Steve and Martin Wolf.

Oops is this off topic - hope we dont need a new thread for a silly question.

I use Ziepod to download all my daily podcasts

    http://www.ziepod.com/

Does just about everything apart form KWN and Eric and "The Double"

There may be a way to retrive the podcasts from these two but i havent figured it out just yet

    ...or this one. Juice reciver

    http://juicereceiver.sourceforge.net/

Good for XP but isnt too keen on Vista/Win7
