Softlywinged
Greetings to all us 'old folk' and anyone else sharing life's experiences and knowledge.I live in the mountains of Arizona where we actually get snow and the 4 seasons, just not as drastic for the 'cold' seasons. I'm 61, female and am loving the idea akita came up with to share our experiences in here to help others and ourselves and look forward to learning and expressing, be it good, bad, sad or hilarious

leelou
Thank you Dr. Bubb, for this new thread and all the information and direction you have provided to the group of "'unworthy" of public posts to RVD!! I too am an old crone, lol Softlywinged, I too live the much slower lifestyle by choice. I left the city 22 years ago for the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia.. It was a culture shock at first, but I truly love this way of living so much now. Nature is very fulfilling for me. It's just vastly beautiful! drbubb
Nevermind, I am very happy to start a new thread, and will look forward to seeing what sort of new direction we might see here. To open up new possiibilities, I may make some occasional posts regarding people I have found wise and inspiring The mention by Softly of ARIZONA, triggered a memory of a film called Raising Arizona, and a woman who appeared in it: Lynne Kitei Miscellaneous Crew | Director | Actress Lynne Kitei is known for her work on The Phoenix Lights (2005), The Life After Death Project 2: Personal Encounters (2013) and Raising Arizona (1987). See full bio » Lynne Kitei was not only in films - How about This; Dr. Lynne Kitei Presents Phoenix in a New Light === === I am tossing all this material out there, to suggest that people can take this thread in New Directions - you need not discuss RVD and his issues. An personal introduction, or background by those who post here is probably a good idea - And I will plan to do my own tomorrow

akita
I like the temp name, too. And men can certainly be crones. Gender has little to do with it. I would also like to welcome old souls in young bodies, if there are any present. I live in southwest Virginia, back in the hills close to Tennessee, and OOPS, I just caught leelou's post, and she's another Blue Ridge Virginian. We certainly have seasons, with blizzards and floods and heat and cold, and it's beautiful. Right now it's GREEN. I've lived here all my life except for a couple of excursions, and am a born and bred hillbilly. I turned 70 back in October. I'm twice divorced and once widowed, my last husband having died of cancer several years ago. I live alone except for a pack of unruly dogs that other people mostly set out, and lots of yard birds and deer and coons and skunks and a bear or two and much wildlife. I never had children of my own, but helped raise a couple of needy boys, who survived my oddities and are doing quite well in Atlanta and Raleigh. Hot damn, Softly, come on home and all us'ns can have a big homecoming and dinner on the ground! DrBubb, looks like so far you have some mountain hermit crones on the roster, for a start. And I certainly agree, RVD not spoken here. I need advice on practical matters sometimes, and will share what I remember of what I've learned (yes, my memory is going) when needful. Thanks! leelou
Softlywinged - Really, what part of West Virginia? I am asking because I am moving to the eastern panhandle of WV soon. The Harper's Ferry area. It's 15 minutes from this area of Virginia. I want to down size and I am tired of taking care of property. It's hard work. It's less expensive in WV also .. The personal property taxes on my present home are too high. It's almost close to having a mortgage even when the house and land are paid for.. So I am headed over to the other side of the mountain.. Softlywinged
Yee haw on us hillbilly's lolI was born in Beckley but spent most of my time around Thurmond, Ansted and Oak Hill and sometimes Charleston and when my folks moved to Ohio where my father and uncle worked on the railroad I still spent my summers and vacations in WV and went home frequently (WV) while my father was still alive as I would drive from Arizona to Ohio and we'd go home together. I haven't been home since 97 but I've got a few cousins who've flown out here to see me. It's funny, I've been away from the southern drawl for so long I no longer have it UNTIL I'm around someone who does and wham, I'm right back at it lol leelou you spoke of culture shock and that's what I got moving here to Arizona. First off, no one understood me when I talked, not because of my drawl, Texans have it here too but because of my words. My first job was working at a restaurant and when I said "they polished that off" or I "red the table" or I went downtown they thought I was from another planet lol Thurmond is now a ghost town and my picture is actually up in the little museum they have there...mine and my family's. And I'll lay you odds everyone of us has Indian in us...am I right? I know DrBubb said he does and when he said Wheeling I bet that's his ancestors with Indian genes? (by the way DrBubb, loved the poem) Yes, I've been through Wheeling...been through Virginia and fell in love with Tennessee and those mountains. It's just a different life back there....where you can stop at someone's house you've never been to before and in time after sitting out on the porch chatting you're invited to dinner....where neighbor looks out for neighbor and sir and ma'am is added when speaking to your elders. My cousins tell me life has changed there but still not as rapidly as other states. I agree on the taxes and don't blame you...I would have gone home instead of moving to Arizona, sure would have been easier because I knew no one and moved with two small kids alone but WV is in one of the lowest wage brackets to support oneself unfortunately...great place to retire though. DrBubb, you're in Hong Kong and London but your roots started out hillbilly...sweet Okay ya'll omg haha I'm already in ya'll just thinking about it haha where are you guys located in Virginia? hahaha How we teased folk who said 'you guys' How about you DrBubb and being in Hong Kong and London? I'm done introducing myself and talking about my upbringing and will get back on track and speak about what ever and where ever we go in this thread but I do hope all of the rest of us participate in here and do the same just to make us feel a little closer to each other? With that being said, DrBubb brought up the Phoenix lights...would you like to hear of my experiences and what I've witnessed in the skies here? Softlywinged
"DrBubb brought up the Phoenix lights...would you like to hear of my experiences and what I've witnessed in the skies here? " Please fire away Okay, I live right by Sedona Arizona, you would have to google it to see the mountains that are filled with copper and crystals making the mountains sort of "magnetic". Before I moved out of Sedona to where I am now, I watched stationary ships withdrawing something out of the mountains...it would be like looking at fiber optics from the mountains to the ships. It was a moon lit night so although I couldn't make out the ship precisely, I knew it was some type of ship in the sky. That was my first sighting back in 85 and because I had already been told by people who lived there that they see UFO's all the time, I wasn't surprised, just excited that I too saw them. I moved away a year and a half later because it's just too crowded for me but only moved 20 minutes away, I can still see the red rocks from here. My next encounter was at Fossil Creek and that too you would have to google...Fossil Creek, Arizona, used to be one of my favorite summer time places...it's just amazing and what you feel when there is beyond words...maybe because it's still so virgin? It's just a calm peace that comes upon one and the water I'm sure has a lot to do with it. I've found in the area I'm at with the virgin ground still untouched it too brings a calm but nothing like Fossil Creek...or rather did...I don't know what changed it, now it just seems a big tourist attraction. I digress...that's when I started laying out by the fire at night and watching the orbs in the sky...this was in the late 80's and it seemed a show would be put on every night. I was so used to it that when the lights appeared in Phoenix, it was no big deal to me, because by then I had learned how to watch for them right off my roof. Yeah, it was a big thing for the kids and I to go up on the roof and watch the shows....I just never wanted any of us getting so comfy we fell asleep and rolled off HAHA I've seen the orbs, I've even seen the blue orbs that are much smaller that zig and zag, go up and down almost as though it's a game just to delight me...and that's when I started talking to them in my head. I thanked them for appearing and asked them if there's anything they can do to please stop the chemtrails because we've been slammed with them up here in our mountains. Our beautiful pure air is no longer pure That was 2 years ago and several times I've watched an orb, yes you can see the orbs at daytime if you know how to look for the flash or the glow and I watched the planes spraying immediately stop and watched a small ball shoot out into the sky and watch the chemtrails dissipate...is it in my head? I hope not because I've seen what I've seen. One day I was sitting out on the front porch with my 4 year old grandson and I was led to look up to the right and I saw the strangest looking cloud. It was triangle shaped in white, like a small triangle held up in the sky and we watched it. Here's the weird part, as we watched it, it grew, and we could no longer see the triangle shape. But it kept growing and growing until it was one massive cloud. It was a windy day and all the other clouds were blowing to the east...this one grew and grew and shot upwards and went towards the west until I could no longer watch it. And that's when I became a day time sky watcher...I saw a HUGE white cigar shaped craft going in and out of the clouds and moving sideways while doing it and tilted at an angle. I was happy to have an adult at that time instead of just my grandson because I don't think my kids believed what I saw with the triangle shaped one and think their 4 year old son was just agreeing with me to agree LOL The only other remarkable thing I've seen was at night and I then too was with an adult and he was talking to me and all I could say was LOOK, LOOK LOOK and point...it rose up over the mountain shooting straight towards us with such a bright light it was blinding. I keep binoculars on the front porch for the day time because of the strange things I've seen in the skies and grabbed them then. All I can say was what ever it was, it flew straight over me...was about the size of 3 of my houses and so fast and so bright it was blinding and QUIET. I'm not saying it was a UFO, in fact it's probably earth made but if this was one of the newer industrialized military craft, we've evolved tremendously. It might have been headed to Secret Canyon military base in Sedona but since it doesn't exist, couldn't be LOL

akita
Having morning coffee on this Memorial Day, and remembering my grandmother. I only had one, my daddy's mother, since my mother's mother died before I was a twinkle in my daddy's eyes. Ma, as we called her, was a wise woman. Back then there were very few male doctors, so the women had to do most of the medicine work. Ma mixed potions and ointments, was a midwife, treated wounds, everything. She watched over the farm critters and was their veterinarian. She raised a huge garden, and grew her own medicinal herbs. She taught school for a few years after she graduated from high school, since there was no college close enough. She had nine children of her own, four boys and five girls. Her own mother died of typhoid fever when Ma was ten years old. She was the oldest, and raised her younger brother and sister. She lost one of her sons when he was three to scarlet fever, and another one was killed in a tornado that hit the schoolhouse when he was fourteen. Ma's people were Scots-Irish, tough and smart and independent. They took care of their own, and resented any interference in their private business. When I was a kid, every Sunday after church we made the 30-mile trip out to the farm to visit with her and Poppy, as we called my grandfather. The whole tribe would show up, and my cousins and I would explore everything we could in the barns and the old farmhouse (where I lived until a few years ago, more later about that). Ma made the best biscuits in the world, and on Sunday she would make extra so we kids could grab one off the old cookstove (she never cooked on an electric stove). She was a phenomenal cook, and could lay out a whole feast with pies and cakes and fried chicken and mashed potatoes and gravy and green beans and tomatoes and corn, everything you could imagine. There was nothing my Ma couldn't do, except drive the old T-model Ford. Women didn't drive back then, and there weren't many cars around anyway. But she could ride a horse like nobody's business. Daddy used to tell me that when Ma was younger, she had hair black as a fire coal that fell to the floor, and every night she would stand in the living room and comb it out, and then put it in a braid before she went to bed. She was a small woman, and was beautiful. I've seen pictures of her from then, and couldn't believe it. Life was hard. There was no end of things that absolutely had to be done, and they got done. Speaking of which, I have things that have to be done, so I"ll leave off for now. I haven't even begun to do justice to my Ma, but maybe I can do more as time allows. She was awesome, and I could never live up to her.

Maybe they do actually help to dissipate the toxic aluminum and other metals in the chemtrails

akita
She was born in 1881, and couldn't even vote until 1920. Without women like her, this country would have failed miserably. Those weren't the good old days. There never were any, to my knowledge. Life was brutal and hardscrabble and totally not fair. But we survived, and now it's up to us. Oh, and she lived to be 92. Softlywinged
akita, you have such a beautiful way of writing and I could visualize what you were saying. Our mothers and grandmothers lived a hard life. You said "She was born in 1881, and couldn't even vote until 1920. Without women like her, this country would have failed miserably. Those weren't the good old days. There never were any, to my knowledge. Life was brutal and hardscrabble and totally not fair. But we survived, and now it's up to us. Oh, and she lived to be 92". There's many parts of me that's a feminist and many that are not...in some directions feminism has gone too far and in other areas not far enough. Heck my first job after high school I was being paid 2.00 less an hour standing beside a man who was doing the same job and that's still happening today. I agree with everything you said and why I'm against Sanders and his socialism...we've never had capitalism yet, although we came close in the 19th century...did we come close because of our grandmother's influencing our grandfather's? drbubb
" I was being paid 2.00 less an hour standing beside a man who was doing the same job and that's still happening today" Where is that? I saw women paid the same in banking, and working less hours and leaving early. But getting smaller bonuses because they achieved less. And also some incredibly driven women determined to outdo the men.
Softlywinged
there's a gender gap of around 21% here in America DrBubb and age and race has a lot to do with it too, but don't take my word for it...I'd research it....I agree with women paid the same in banking but not all arenas. Why do women feel the need to outdo men or vice versa? If we just did our optimum who cares if certain genders do better. Sorry, it's just a pet peeve of mine where women have a 'hate' thing with men. Men make the world go around just like women do yet they never get the credit deserved.
