Fresnillo ups gold and silver production in second quarter

Mining-Trucks.jpg(Kitco News) - Top primary silver producer and Mexico's largest gold producer Fresnillo announced today that its quarterly attributable gold production increased 8.6% over Q2 2020 to 200,163 ounces due to a higher volume of ore processed at Herradura, a higher ore grade at Saucito and increased volume of ore processed at Noche Buena.

The company added that its quarterly attributable silver production (including Silverstream) increased 9.6% over Q2 2020 to 14,092 thousand ounces due to a higher ore grade at San Julián DOB, partly offset by a lower ore grade and a volume of ore processed at Saucito.

The company's quarterly attributable by-product lead and zinc production increased 1.3% to 16,386 tonnes and 3.6% to 27,687 tonnes over Q2 2020 respectively primarily due to higher ore grades at both Saucito and San Julián DOB, partially offset by lower ore grades at Fresnillo.

Fresnillo noted that the company remains on track to meet its 2021 full year guidance of 53.5 to 59.5 million ounces of silver (including Silverstream) and 675 to 725 thousand ounces of gold.

Fresnillo is the world's largest primary silver producer and Mexico's largest gold producer. Fresnillo has seven operating mines, all of them in Mexico - Fresnillo, Saucito, Ciénega (including the San Ramón satellite mine Las Casas Rosario & Cluster Cebollitas), Herradura, Soledad-Dipolos, Noche Buena and San Julián, three development projects and six advanced exploration projects.

Fresnillo CEO says Mexico's mining situation 'unfavorable'

ACAPULCO, Mexico Oct 20 (Reuters) - The chief executive of Mexico's top precious metals miner Fresnillo on Wednesday described the current government's policies as "unfavorable" for the key industrial sector.

Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador's government
has been criticized by the mining industry for its policy of no new concessions, as well as what have been described as unprecedented regulatory delays.

Earlier this month, Lopez Obrador further stoked industry concerns by proposing a constitutional reform that would restrict future lithium mining, in addition to placing similar limits on other "strategic minerals" needed for the country's energy transition.

"We are in an unfavorable environment right now," Fresnillo Chief Executive Octavio Alvidrez said in a mining conference in Acapulco.

Dialogue with the government could lead to policy modifications, Alvidrez added, without going into details.

The chief executive noted that last year the mining sector was initially left out of the government's designation as an "essential' industry, and as a consequence was forced to shut down for a couple months.

But after dialogue with authorities, he added, mining was later deemed essential and mines across the country were allowed to open back up.

Fresnillo increases silver production in 2022 as gold production down 15.3%

shutterstock_1901477254.jpg(Kitco News) - Fresnillo (LSE: FRES), the world's largest primary silver producer, announced today that in 2022, its attributable silver production of 53.7 moz (including Silverstream) was in line with guidance and slightly above  FY21 (53.1 moz) with production from Juanicipio and increased volumes of ore processed at Fresnillo, offset by the lower ore grade at San Julián (DOB).

The company said that its 2022 attributable gold production of 635.9 koz was in line with guidance and down 15.3% compared to 2021 (751.2 koz), primarily due to a lower recovery rate as higher volumes of sulphide ore are processed and lower ore grade at Herradura, and a decrease in the volume of ore processed and lower ore grades at Noche Buena, Saucito and Ciénega.

Full year 2022 attributable by-product lead production decreased 6.4% compared to 2021 due to a decrease in the volume of ore processed and lower ore grade at Saucito and decreased ore grade at San Julián (DOB), mitigated by increased ore throughput and higher ore grade at Fresnillo and increased contribution from Juanicipio. Zinc production was in line with 2021.

...On a silver equivalent basis, the company produced 104.6 moz in 2022, which is a decrease of 7.6% over 2021 (113.2 moz).

In 2023, the company’s attributable silver production is expected to be in the range of 57.0 to 64.0 moz (including Silverstream), and attributable gold production is expected to be in the range of 590 to 640 koz.

Fresnillo is the world's largest primary silver producer and Mexico's largest gold producer.
