Gold in GBP is now lowest its been since mid May at £790.
Not low enough though! Im holding out for lower seasonal prices before I buy some, and silver. Anyone (except Ker) like to hazard a guess how much lower? Im guessing £24,000 and will start buying then.

gold is going to be in a secular "day traders market" now. It is like :
1. rallied from 15 to 20 bucks?
2. short it.
3. dropped 20 to 30 bucks?
4. cover
5. go to step 1 until 3 to 4 years pass
no money for investors but a lot of points for scalpers
Ker, why are you only negative about gold? You think "gold bugs" are like religious fanatics and respond like a fanatical athiest!
You said many times that gold is going back to $500 and that never happened and now you say that its going no where for 3-4 years ie. staying around $1200. I think that anyone new to this site ought to know your record before they take any notiice of what you think. Im just a fool and yet I have been correct about gold. You tend to loose all credability in other things you say, like realist bear over on HPC.

I am about to sell some fiat for Sovereigns (funds from a closed BV account). As you seem to be an expert at trading gold, what price should I buy at?
I would be interested in knowing when to make some major purchases. My short experience this far has taught me to be patient. So this decline could now continue for some time? I may buy silver when the time comes.
Nice timing Dr Bubb, nailed it to the day! Very clever.

That was exactly what I was hoping for! I hope it goes on for a few days.
I need to get that SIPP sorted.
(Sorry, don't want to annoy anyone. But this plunge makes me extremely happy!!!
)
Me too, I have accumulated some fiat and I dont want to buy in at these prices. I was thinking of silver and if it goes down some more Im going to load up big time.

better than gold and silver?

I dont think so....

Fiat currencies. Don't you just love them

Woot no gold?

The design is ok on the 1 ounce version but a bit ugly for the 100kg size. I like the maple leaf design but not the portrait of the queen. It needs more detail on a coin of that size.
If anyone is after some gold coins, this guy is selling some cheaper than CID. For example, 1/2 sovereign at CID is £110 + P&P. ebay seller is £105 incl. P&P special delivery. Offer £100 on a 1/2 sov and the counter offer is £105.

They look like they have been in rings though.

I don’t think that suggesting that customers concerns are politically motivated, prejudicial, some sort of wild ridiculous conspiracy or just plain bile is the best way of addressing the issues.
I suspect Adrian has been assimilated into a lizard. Shame really.....such a nice bloke....

Adrian Ash might be visiting us to discuss Rothchilds infiltration into BullionVault. He is out the office untill tomorrow. If any of you have issues about Rothchilds envolvement, can you put it to Adrian by posting your points here.
I will start. Is Paul Tustain disappointed with BVs growth and thinks that Rothchild can bring something to the table that will improve growth? Does it matter to Paul what the BV members think? If its about the £12.5 million, could BV members have bought shares to raise revenues?
I am considering selling my BV holdings to buy coins instead.

Am I alone in finding some of the racist comments on this thread very offensive?
Which comments do you find offensive?
Oh, $5 an apple Steve.

Mistake on CID? Silver eagles are cheapest 1oz coin. 500 cheaper than a monster box. Mistake IMO at £16.65......
Looks like the prices have settled for the weekend a bit lower than normal. Does anyone know where you can get Silver Eagles for less than £16.65?
-
Hoover them up while people will still take fiat.
Indeed. It makes me think the end is a long way off though.

Check these little babies out........
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...%3D1&_rdc=1
In the listing details it says "THIS SET COST £96 IN 1977". That was 3 years off the peak so what will they be worth this time round?
-
Unless there was also a proof in cupro-nickel, this is a steal...
1977 proof jubilee crown, £6.99 and free delivery. 9 available.
The first edit in the listing is from 2006, maybe the price never got updated. I'm too cautious to go for it.
Edit:
Yes, there was a cupro-nickel proof:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1977-PROOF-CROWN-QUE...b#ht_2569wt_754
"THIS 1977 CROWN HAS BEEN REMOVED FROM A ROYAL MINT PROOF SET AND IS IN GREAT PROOF CONDITION. SUPPLIED IN A NEW CAPSULE. THIS COIN IS THE CUPRO-NICKEL VERSION."
So you need to check whether Silver relates to the Jubilee or the fabric of the coin. The price could reflect people's unwillingness to check so many listing details to find the occasional treasure.
You have to watch out for that. The item in your link looks more like the CuNi version. Some people list these coins very misleadingly. Typically they call them "prooflike" and as they are a silver jubilee coin that doesnt nessarsarily mean they are silver. Best to ask the seller if there is any doubt before youu buy. A great test to check if a coin is silver or cupro-nickel is to lay a sheet of loo paper or tissue over it. The silver coin strangely gleams through the tissue and whereas the cupro-nickel one cant be seen.
-
How do you work that out???
Silver is subject to a min storage charge of $96 a year, even if you only have a kilo or up to $20,000 worth so its most efficient to have at least $20,000 worth.
-
If silver prices fall back over the summer, Im going to load up at BV. I think you need to have about 35kg to make it worthwhile due to the storage fees.
-
I think these are fantastic value.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...%3D1&_rdc=1
A historical coin made by the royal mint as a proof coin to a high standard, come boxed, in a capsule, including postage, all for less than spot on this occasion....
Why are they so cheap?
-
Recently I have bought several items on ebay which came with the original receipts dated 1978. The coins sold for much the same figures in 1978 as they cost me on ebay.
My parents house cost £11,000 in 1978 and today they would be asking more than £220,000 which is 20 x more.
I think silver has a long way to go yet. Based on the comparison above, a £15 ounce coin would be £300, a £500 kilo bar would be £10,000.
Ouch!

Someone's not told the ebay buyers, near 40% ave premiums on ASE's being paid. Is this normal or have some gone barking mad? Why pay over the odds when there are good dealers with supplies?
Hmmm, where can you get them cheapest then? Sarnia are £17.25 and are the cheapest I know.

To avoid any possible CGT in future Id like to swap / sell some of my non UK Gold
for some UK Brits / Sovs.
What would be the best way to do this without losing out ? Sell to bullion dealer at a loss ?
I spoke wiith coin invest about this and they were agreeable to do a deal. So you could send them your gold coins for sale and they would send you sovereigns in return hopefully on more favourable terms than if you sold for cash and then bought.

hey folks, i wrote this article on SA
it is not in the GOLD category because......
http://seekingalpha.com/instablog/481054-k...bears-long-term
"My ultimate low for gold is $320" ......Errol will be pleased, although I think it is a rediculous suggestion and you have been wrong for years.
-
What are the best bargains you have bought? Its just that there is an enormous feeling of smugness when you buy an unidentified gold or silver coin that turns out to be worth more than you paid for it.
RecentlyI bought a set of 6 coins, one gold coloured and 5 silver coloured for £30 ish.. the gold one turns out to be a 10th of an ounce and three of the silver ones are 999 28g ounces and the other two are £5 legal coins now spent on beer at the local shop. I know, I know, but im kinda tickled by it....and the beer

Someone got a bargain today, unfortunatly it wasnt me......
