 You’ve read 6 bad posts after he felt attacked and judged his previous 600+ posts?

I think even if his previous 600 posts had been blessed by the literary gods, his last 6 posts still more than cancelled them out.

I thought CDSwamp was a decent poster, provided an alternative view. However, there was no need for an adult to post his last few posts.

I posted 3 months in the poll.

The issue of free speech on the internet is interesting, but I don't think it's valid in this sort of situation. These forums aren't a democracy, someone has to pay the bills, and to my mind that makes us all invited guests. You wouldn't go to a stranger's house, shout and scream, insult other guests, generally abuse the hospitality and not expect to get kicked out would you? I think the same ought to apply here. If you want free speech, start a blog. My main concern regarding cds' posts was that most of them were copy and paste conspiracy paranoia, at some stages verging on outright racism. I enjoy conspircy debate, but there comes a point when the intruiging crosses into delusional, which is the point I feel we reached. We all know that big business has a vested interest in global events, but occult plots to take over the World?! I've seen so many other forums ruined by the same behaviour - someone posts something (eg the bit about WTC 7 being demolished with hydrogen bombs...) that's obviously complete nonsense, but rather than debate WHY they have that opinion, they just let the post hang, then accuse anyone who questions it of being blind to the truth, which gets us nowhere. If you genuinely want to debate these issues, then debate them, don't just make hit and run posts and then start being abusive if/when people question you! I'd take his points far more seriously (even the really out there ones) if he stuck around and debated them rationally, but he never did, he just stomped and shouted, told people they were ignorant and then got all abusive, which sadly is nothing new when debating those sort of issues. I daresay he's off on another forum somewhere posting about he was banned from here for daring to expose the truth, which will only ever serve to reinforce his opinions and behaviour, so I very much doubt his posting style or attitude would change. That's not to say don't let him back - he's on my ignore list now, so I don't really care. Any valid point he may have had has been lost in all the other nonsense and then further undermined by his behaviour, so I can no longer be bothered to read what he posts. I'd point out that of all the forums I frequent, he's the only person I've ever put on ignore where such a function exists.

Thanks for the explanation DrBubb, I often wondered about the name, but never thought that it had anything to do with doctorate or medical qualifications.

The big question for me is Does Goldfinger really have a finger made of solid gold? or is it just plated?

Also did Steve Netwriter really write the Internet?

And indeed is wren ACTUALLY a wren? :)

Yes you are only as good as your last post.

Bit like being the life and soul at the dinner party - charming and funny - then shitting on the doormat as you leave.

OK, boring story :D

I started as "NeuralNetWriter", because at the time, I was writing ...... neural networks

That proved too impersonal, so I changed to "Steve Netwriter" for short :D

I do write ON the net, so I find it a bit of a fun name :D

The wonderfully diverse range of opinions on this thread shows how difficult it is to satisfy everyone :D

yes fair point I suppose. I think he knew that his pov wouldn't be readily accepted tbh, I mean it is a financial investment board BUT what I don't get is why some posters think they aren't connected, when imo they are......very much so.

I suppose we all handle things differently.

I personally have never abused or been abused on hpc, ghpc or gei, well apart from a few debates with CO. ;)

Theres no doubt cdswamp is a very clever guy, but also very passionate with it. I'm sure you can all guess what my vote was.

Pluto....he thought you to be one of the best posters & he said he had a lot of respect for you. I'm sure he won't mind me saying that.

How do you know that? How many of his 600+ posts have you read?

Must have read half a dozen before realising he was a nutter, so didn't read his other masterpieces. I have a busy life running my own business so don't have time for idiots, trouble makers and time wasters - I get enough of those in my day to day life. Life is too short to waste on losers who have little going on in their lives and personal issues/grievances.

I find it odd that you’ve written one of the strongest objections towards cdswamp yet you seem not the have been negatively affected by his posts.

I've never engaged with him, particularly as I'm an infrequent poster. Normally I wouldn't get involved with stuff like this, but after reading the crap he wrote on the earlier link then I had to say something given the hours and hours of fantastic input that DrBubb and Steve have put into this site and others as well. I think this guy has little appreciation of how many of us came to be here and what we are about and yet he makes personal attacts on two of the main contributors to the site after only 8 weeks of posting - wtf gives him the right?..... who does he think he is?!

To say that the posts of DrBubb have changed my life is not an overstatement - I found HPC in 2004 and his posts always stood out wrt cycles which lead me onto the work of Fred Harrison and ultimately here. I will always be grateful for the information and knowledge that was freely posted on that site and on here which ultimately has given me more control of my life and finances. I'm now an active trader (part-time) and can understand charts as I now use them myself in trading - I've come a long way although I'm still waiting to buy a house. My focus is now on growing the big deposit I have and maybe not having to work that much in the future, who knows.....

Anyway, that's my opion fwiw - but I would rather see the standards here kept high than have it full of childish tossers.

Im suprised that the vote is so 50/50. I voted that he should be susspended for longer, 1 month. The guy was plain rude and disrespectful to the owner of the site and the moderator. Both are easy going and seem gentlemen to me and I'm personally offended for them. Theres a time to stick up for what is right! Surely we dont want our site to desend into some cheap, abusive, foul mouthed site? I hope this doesn't damage the great spirit we have here but these issues will arrise from time to time. I think that its been dealt with very well and votes are a great way of sharring the decisions amongst the members.

cdswamp did seem to have some 'issues', and who are we to second guess what they are or what he might be going through. And anyway, its only words he threw at us - which realy don't hurt unless yuou let them! I rather feel sorry for the guy!

So I suggest a policy of 3 strikes and you're out for people like cdswamp.

He's had one 'strike' and an temporary ban as a result. And I'd reccomend the same approach again if he rejoins us and again truns nasty. BUt if that hapened a third time then its a total ban...no further tolerance!

free speech wins albeit slightly ...

Okay, that's your view (and carefully put too.)'

But I'm the one who has the responsibility to determine what GEI stands for.

I say: Free Speech is valued here, but it must be exercised in a way that isnt rude and abusive to others,

whomever they may be (Gordon Brown and Alan Greenspan, and any other arch villains excepted, of course)

free speech vs. the moderation of manners and protocol

tough one

free speech wins albeit slightly - cdswamp if you're reading this, remember that free speech is important but so is respect to others!

and for my next trick I will leave you with some real words of wisdom!

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=bTq6aApCBnA

he is

but I'm not sure you can be trusted with this type of senitive information as you are a double agent. Unless your title is made up & you are not really a double agent. You see, I am actually a grumpy old man. Talking about titles, I think you should either have a non descript username or one that is true. ;)

thereagain then you wouldn't have freedom of speech now would you........oh it's a difficult one.

To say that the posts of DrBubb have changed my life is not an overstatement

Yeah - Dr Bubb started me off on a whole new phase of self education in matters financial and macro economic. I was not to realise that stumbling across a website like HPC back in '04 was going to be so life changing.

I think Doc Bubb needs to chill out a bit though. He seems to be agonising over this latest banning far more than its importance warrants.

Over at HPC, the moderation is far more clumsy and heavy handed than here. Mind you, GEI is more intellectual and less edgy than HPC so probably doesn't require bouncers on the door in quite the same way.

That's what it is all about. And maybe, to keep one's sanity, one shouldn't even be rude to villains.

"To say that the posts of DrBubb have changed my life is not an overstatement"

Well, that's nice to hear- so long as it was for the better.

I am pretty relaxed about it (Swampy's banning), since I havent yet seen anything here that makes me want

to change the banning from a one month wait.

I am actually a bit curious to see if he will return, and show some better behaviour.

I give that a 50/50 chance

That's what it is all about. And maybe, to keep one's sanity, one shouldn't even be rude to villains.

It was an attempt at humor. I dont think we should be rude to anyone, but when it comes to those particular

villains, and mad bulls from SP, and am happy to make an exception, since they should have known better and

they damaged so very many

to think we discussed this only a month ago:

they all go the same way....eventually

It's an interesting thread to read all the way through. I wonder how many people have changed their minds/opinions....

common sense really...

I do agree that some site decorum is required BUT what if people get verbally attacked for their pov then retaliate. I always find that firstly you need history of the poster (not always easy obviously) then you need to read the whole thread. For example, the cdswamp links that Bubb has posted only tell half a story imo.

Now I thought cdswamp asked for ALL his posts to be deleted iirc, yet 2 posts, ones where he gets very annoyed, have been saved...... <_<

I am not saying I totally agree with the way cdswamp handled it (we are all different after all), but surely you can't just show 2 posts from a poster & judge them ?

I had a bit of a runin (for want of better words) with the starter of this thread (ziknik), we resolved it ourselves BUT what if someone posted a couple of those links where I generalised for example......hardly fair eh ?

food for thought perhaps for everyone. We ALL make mistakes....

& we all wonder why the leaders of countries can't resolve issues when we ourselves (you know us armchair economists ;) ) have a thread like this. How many differing views exist on cdswamp. It's easy to jump onto a bandwagon because you don't like what people are saying BUT this surely just makes us as bad as everyone else then ?

I mean I don't want everyone to agree that gold is going to the moon & it's hyper-inflation because we might miss something, & therefore get it wrong.

edited for usual sh1te spelling.

Seriously: I FULLY agree with all you say here. Furthermore, cds may even have a psychotic illness (explaining his interesting and controvertial posting style). Basically, we have to have wider shoulders (against pathetic insults) or narrower membership. A policy of 'three strikes and you're out' would solve all of this!

Non-seriously: I warn you, you're in danger of undermining you 'GOM' handle :)

'Free speech' is a vague phrase that, on its own, doesn't really say anything. Although it is something most people can seem to agree with in principle. Its just not a very useful statement to make, its like saying 'I support the troops' or 'I support the people in Chicago'

The important part missing that would make the phrase into a useful sentence is free speech' 'to do or say what?'

I think we can all agree that the following are great examples of free speech that should be encouraged.

  • 'free speech' to express you ideas and opinions
  • free speech' to inquire and ask questions
  • 'free speech' to debate your opinion and the opinions of others
  • 'free speech' to question authority

I hope we can agree that the following are examples of situations where free speech should be limited.

  • 'free speech' to disrupt in an event or discussion in a manner that prevents the free speech of others
  • 'Free speech' to 'shout fire in a cinema' when you know that there is no fire
  • 'free speech' to knowingly spread false information about a company to gain financial advantage
  • Free speech' to call knowingly make false accusations about people being pedophiles or nazi war criminals
  • 'Free speech' to promote bigotry, racism and anti semitic messages etc...
  • 'free speech' to be abusive towards other people

I don't doubt for a minuet that all proponents of 'free speech' in this thread are good honest people who genuinely feel that some travesty is being committed, but 'Free speech' on its own is a vague and meaningless statement, at best its argument by slogan at worst it becomes apologist statement for all sorts of socially and morally unacceptable behavior. I fully support free speech of anyone to do or say things In the first list above, I would like to see limits applied to free speech in situations shown in the second list. Along with the right to free speech go an important responsibilities not to use that right to free speech to Denny and curtail other the rights of others.

I would like to ask those who are concerned that cdswaps 'free speech' is being denied, or that that GEI is limiting 'free speech' to please define more specifically 'free speech' to do 'what'?

Just a thought to DrBubb and Steve - I've noticed that the editing time on here is very short (30 mins to an hour at the most) which doesn't give posters time to retract something they've said which on reflection (maybe an hour later or later in the day) they wish they hadn't. On HPC you could always edit something within a 24 period which means anything offensive can be removed before it is set in stone - hindsight is a wonderful thing and maybe we should all have a longer period to be able to edit posts.... can this be changed in the settings?

Maybe some of my earlier posts on this thread were a bit OTT (I was angry  ), but I couldn't edit them after quite a short period - a longer editing time would give any user on here time (after a period of reflection or after the red mist had dispersed) to retract what they had said. I don't know if this would help - it's not going to stop the damage done particularly if what is originally posted is quoted/posted by another user before it is changed. At least it gives the user more time and if after the editing period expires and no change to remove offensive/abusive language has been made then it can be deemed that the original poster stands by what he has said.

ps - I would like to add that this is really all a complate waste of many peoples time. I come hear to learn about investing/trading so I can better my life so don't really understand why anyone would waste so much time talking ballocks when there's so much to learn and benefit from on here. There's plenty of other general web forums out there without having people undermine what GEI is ultimately about - don't get me wrong, I'm not a bore and like the OT stuff but if I wanted to have some kind of nutty/conspiracy debate then I would more likely be on HPC.

a contradiction in tems, surely ? ;)

ps - I admire the fact that you started this thread. :)

Thanks.

I expected the thread titles to be edited when I started this thread. I kept words to a minimum because I wasn’t sure how the forum would react and didn’t want to write anything that would antagonise the situation.

...

I had a bit of a runin (for want of better words) with the starter of this thread (ziknik), we resolved it ourselves BUT what if someone posted a couple of those links where I generalised for example......hardly fair eh ?

...

We wouldn’t have had the chance to settle our situation if one or both of us had been suspended for months.

It’s worth remembering that cdswamp made many well mannered posts in that thread before losing his temper.
