drbubb
GEI's Reign of Terror - Trigger-happy Mods takeover I'm frigging tired of receiving PM's like this ! =================================== Watch out, the first 24 hour banning is about to happen - Your could be next ! So watch out, dear member I'm fed up to the fekking back-teeth of receiving PM's like the following one (see below,) And so I am going to initiate a reign of terror on GEI, asking the moderators to start dishing out 24 hour bans, whenever they see fit. Before the "Tigger" typo, I wanted this: .......................... :: Instead, I got this: .. NEW POLICY FOR THIS PERIOD WARN OR BAN (for 24 hours), whenever you see the following: + Strong and offensive language (odious 4-letter words), + Strong language of disrepect towards other posters + Inappropriate imagery of body parts, or pornographic activities + Over-the-top Slander RULES: 1/ Those who have a complaint, should copy the objectionable language to this thread, with a link 2/ The Moderators have full discretion, and during this expermental "reign of terror", I want them to be willing to "err on the side of over-warning, and over-banning 3/ When some one is warned or banned, I want to Mods to post their reason for doing so on this thread 4/ We (the Mods) are going to make mistakes, and warn or ban so people who do not deserve it, and I am asking those who feel unfairly warned or banned to "roll with the punches", accept it, not complain to much, and after the warning or brief ban, get back to the business of being useful and respectful posters on GEI 5/ I will need some new Mods to help out in this process, and I want people to make suggestions about who would be a good moderator. Later I will start a poll. In the meantime, I am going to invite back to GEI both Roman Holiday, and Halcyon, and I will make them temporary moderators for at least 2-3 weeks, and possibly until year end. After that temporary period, they may or may not stay as moderators Here is one of several PM's which helped to inspire this new policy. (Note: I do truly welcome this feedback, and this is not meant as criticism of the person - a woman, I believe - who sent it to me:) QUOTE Apologies for PM'ing you (again) but I am a relatively new member to the board having lurked for a while and really enjoy the site. I PM'd you a while ago when the CDSwamp debacle was going on. It seems ironic that as the very things that the board members wanted to happen are happening (price rises in Precious Metals, for example) the level of on-board bickering and sniping seems to have grown louder and accelerated. I would have posted this on the topic thread dedicated to it but don't want to be shot down myself for airing my views as I am such a newbie. Now I visit and log on to a thread and see the childish put downs and just switch off - literally. I'm not such a fragile soul that I can't handle this but it just seems to be getting really tedious and I visit less and less, which I am sad about. In the last few weeks so many (good) old posters have departed and it seems really sad that a minority seem to be spoiling it for the majority. I know that groups go through forming, storming & norming so accept it but this storming phase seems to be spoiling the quality of the board. Not really sure what the solution is but I hope that it returns to being a more harmonious, friendly place like it used to be. UNQUOTE My response was: Thank you for that feedback. To be completely honest, I dont really know what to do about it. I am not going to spend my day, and waste my time policing the boards, and so I have to rely on others to restrain themselves, and/or I will need more help in the moderation process. - DrBubb I did not want to do this, but I am fekking fed up spending so much time on this issue, because some stupid, childish, and idiotic people find it hard to restrain themselves from self-indulgent moaning. That's enough ! I say to those who offend here! You are always welcome, so long as you make sensible and respectful postings, of the type which built GEI and its respectful reputaion. But kindly, Fekk-off with the bad language and frigging attitude of idiotic disrepect for your fellow posters ! = = = = = = = = = = = = = (Note: Regarding those "invited back"): Strong support for the following: + Romans Holiday (44/ 47) : 94% + Halcyon (41/ 47) : 87% Little support for the following: + CDSwamp (17 / 42) : 40% /see poll here: http://www.greenenergyinvestors.com/index.php?showtopic=8248 If CDSwamp wants to convey and apology and a promise to behave more responsibly, I am happy to retake the poll. = = = = = = = = = = = = = WARNINGS OR BANNINGS Suspensions - 24 hours : Drbubb - for 24hours from 19.Nov- 5pm HK time : FitKid
drbubb
And the first to be banned is... I did not want to do this, but I am fekking fed up spending so much time on this issue, because some stupid, childish, and idiotic people find it hard to restrain themselves from self-indulgent moaning. But kindly, Fekk-off with the bad language and frigging attitude of idiotic disrepect for your fellow posters ! This language is inappropriate to GEI, and so I am banning DrBubb from posting here for the next 24 hours ! (I will continue to operate as a moderator, and post my reason on this thread if I decided to warn or ban anyone.) I will not return to posting until 5pm HK time on Friday. romans holiday
I'm fed up to the fekking back-teeth of receiving PM's like the following one (see below,) And so I am going to initiate a reign of terror on GEI, asking the moderators to start dishing out 24 hour bans, whenever they see fit. Hi Bubb, I am still around. I have invested a lot of time on GEI, and will no doubt continue posting here. I am taking a break from posting at the moment. To be frank, I think you need to be careful of "jaw-boning" here. 24 hour bans are hardly a "reign of terror". If you are going to get serious about regulating the site then you should be starting with 1 or 2 week suspensions, then start banning the repeat offenders for good. Edit: I have just increased your warning level. 5/ I will need some new Mods to help out in this process, and I want people to make suggestions about who would be a good moderator. Later I will start a poll. In the meantime, I am going to invite back to GEI both Roman Holiday, and Halcyon, and I will make them temporary moderators for at least 2-3 weeks, and possibly until year end. After that temporary period, they may or may not stay as moderators Thanks for the vote of confidence and the offer. I am not sure if I am interested in actually being a moderator myself, more in seeing some serious moderation taking place. Could I suggest some other posters instead? How about Enrieb, Id5, Ziknik, Littledavesab, AGC? What ever happened to Steve Netwriter?? Now there was a moderator with some gravitas! Why not give Steve free reign to sort the site out? May the sense be with you ! HaHa Good try DrBubb but it won't work. A key component of investing, well life in general, is understanding and forecasting human behaviour. What have you just done? You have drawn a line in the sand and said don't cross it. What happens when you say that to a child? Can you see what is going to happen can't you? You will be tested. I predict people will get theselves banned purposely and see it as a status symbol. Then people will compete on who's got banned for the smallest offence or what really constitutes an offence. Then it'll be "A got banned for this" but "B didn't get banned for that" Remember everything is a game. Shall I start: B0LLikcs! Good try though - enjoy the break
grumpy-old-man
definetly a link between deflationary poster tension & the rise of silver/gold. edited: other changes noticed recently are power hungry people imo. bobbyald141
definetly a link between deflationary poster tension & the rise of silver/gold. Strange you say that because I'm a deflationist and happy that gold is rising. Gold is money therefore it rises in a deflation (as we have now). This deflationist is making money Just gotta get the timing right on shorting the SPX.

mSparks
tbf, If I was suspended, I haven't got the foggiest idea why, I'm not sure I've ever sworn on GEI, and the last person I had a spat with (which was actually a healthy one anyway) was swampy. hpcrash1
Start banning people for 24h and they will start banning YOU for life. Let people do their own moderation with the mouse wheel or the ignore function. If they respond to aggravating posts it's because they want to. Treat people like children and they will act like children. Stop the social engineering.
drunken sailor
I am willing to once again offer my excellent suggestion to you about this problem... If you ignore it this time, I will not re submit it. Make the topic owner the actual owner. They are responsible for banning a member from their topic. The benefits are twofold 1. Posters must show repect or risk being banned from the topic. 2. If you are over zealous, you risk having no readers, and also risk counter bans from the topics of your peers. Worth a shot, surely? Stop the social engineering. i think drbubb has done the right thing - self moderation doesn't work as a lot of people on the internet behave like children - if you don't like it throw your toys out of the pram and go somewhere else. Properly moderated forums to edit out abuse/swearing and offensive images work fine all over the internet - if you want to do those things here i think you should be sent packing. Timil
I'm firmly of the opinion this site used to be much more concise, informative and useful a while back, at times its as bad as the swamp most of us originated from, for that reason my visits aren't anything like as frequent as they once where.. A pretty good additional way to bring an errant poster to heel is to suspend their posts until a moderator has approved them if this takes 1 hr, 1 day, 1 week they soon get the message shape up PDQ or ship out end of. Zero Tolerance.

Sadly the love of money, combined with the 'I told you so' egotism of the school playground always manages to bring out the worst in folk. I'm glad I found this site as it's given me some ideas of how to protect myself and my family from casino capitalists, but I remain fundamentally of the view that wealth should be earned through service of society. I really honestly don't want to become wealthy through joining the smart casino party. For every rich man, there's need for a thousand poor and more. Would you believe I originally found this site by googling 'GREEN ENERGY'! ...don't lose sight of the genesis folks.

Pseudo-environmental projects and businesses which are now encouraged by the old rotten banking system, have suckered-in many decent people into thinking that both 'growth' and sustainability are possible. I have always thought that a thread starter should have the right to dictate the content of the thread. I'm not sure it is possible to give a thread starter the ability to delete or edit replies though. I've found it frustrating that when I start a thread, meant for the purpose of gaining knowledge, it has on occasion been infested by those who have a different opinion, and the original purpose is lost. As a mod I've put up with that as I tend to be more lenient about things where I am concerned. I do think your suggestion is basically a good one.
